Update: unfortunately the quality has gone down since I first reviewed Bantaba. My original review is below. The last time I got takeaway from here, the chickpea curry was undercooked (chickpeas were rock hard) with watery sauce, like it was made in a rush. The goat curry had three pieces of goat in it, mostly bone. It used to fill my partner up but now he's left hungry. We called up to give them a chance to put this right, and just got a 'sorry'. No offer to refund or make the food again properly. We had to throw most of it out. Such a shame as this used to be a lovely restaurant and great to have locally, and we had ordered about 6 times by this point. Unfortunately we won't be returning due to the poor quality and service.

Original review: 3rd time visiting tonight, and intend to come many more times! Food is always delicious, waiting staff really friendly, and all really good value. Good amount of...

I cannot stress enough how much I recommend this place a hidden gem doesn't even begin to do justice to the symphony a flavors produced by the chefs at this establishment the Buffalo wings were among if not the best I've ever had perfect combination of spicy savory and vinegary, the moi moi was unlike anything I've had before only elevated by the plethora of sauces and fragrant flavorful oils. The ox tails and goat fufu were fall off the bone tender and loaded with flavor, the chili sauce was to die for as was the Buffalo sauce and the white sauce they do sell some of these sauces I believe, so be sure to pick some to liven up some meals at home all in all hands down one of the most sensational experiences I've had at restaurant i would buy a plane ticket to have one more meal here the chefs are doing magic in...

It is not often that a restaurant hits it off the park in all fields (quality of food, service, and experience), but this place most definitely did. The flavour profile, presentation, and quantity was above and beyond. When a place can do vegan food deliciously without having to rely heavily on processed food, I know that the non-vegan food will be absolutely amazing. That was the case for this location, as my party proceeded to demolish the food that was brought out for them.

Some comments from my party:

"Holysh*t I didn't take any pictures, I just inhaled it. "

"When the wings came out, my brain switched off. "

"Those plantains, fried to perfection. "

"I wish they were busier, they deserve to be busier. "

Only "con" would be wait time, but...

The service was excellent. The owner of the restaurant (I believe he was) was incredibly helpful and even assisted us in bringing our bikes inside when we arrived, which we really appreciated. I don’t often have Caribbean food, so I was curious about the menu. Some dishes looked quite spicy, but everything sounded very appealing. We ordered a fish stew served with what seemed like mashed taro on the side. You eat it by hand, taking a bit at a time and dipping it into the sauce. The flavors were rich and layered—I loved it, even though it was quite spicy. We also tried a tofu dish, which came with salad and rice. It was equally delicious, and you could really tell the care and effort that went into preparing the food.

I wouldn't order from this place. Food almost 2 hours late. Rice was bland, beans were mush, plantain was soggy/sloppy and bland. Just Eat claimed this was the restaurants "style" of food. Their style of food must also include chicken doused in grease. The portion sizes were (mercifully) rather small. Oh and the veg was cleary pre-frozen stuff you would get from a budget supermarket. 90% of what we ordered went in the bin. The menu looks and sounds fantastic, in reality it was way below mediocre.

If you're looking for a break from bland UK food, Bantaba Afro Caribbean Restaurant definitely delivers on the flavor front. I tried the lamb, which was delicious, and the jerk chicken. Be warned though - that jerk chicken lives up to its name! It was incredibly spicy, even for someone like me who enjoys heat. Overall, I liked the food, but be prepared for some serious spice if you order the jerk chicken!
