Following my last five star afternoon tea review I am afraid this morning tea was far from five star. Our friends were restricted by arrival time so morning tea was booked within booking time of a later 11.45. We were seated quickly by a very nice member of the team and drinks and meal specifics ordered. Firstly two meals arrived 9-10 minutes before the second two as a group of four we all sat while the hot items reduced in temperature . Suggestion bring the cold items out in advance if serving granola as most people would eat that first. The menu was :Homemade granola with yoghurt and berry compote • Breakfast skillet of sausage, bacon, tattie scone, poached egg and mushrooms • Homemade scones with cream and jam • Chef's sweet treat So we ate the “granola” I would recommend management to not announce but go sit down and order the home made granola and compote- it’s not the best and had been made hours in advance. Moving on lovely sausage and potato scone, no mushrooms, the bacon look dark and dried , unfortunately i could not get the knife through the bacon and eggs were well overcooked and hard - the later two deliveries of food were better than the first two so perhaps the first two were taken from a different batch. Scone was not freshly made that morning or if it was it was stored incorrectly and dried out , even with the jam and half the cream still dry. The sweet treat - was a dried brownie - no one consumed.
The staff member asked how things were as we were eating the hot Items, I explained the problem with my hot items, the staff member offered to get another slice of bacon or egg I said no as I had already eaten most of the hot items but requested that chef receive feedback that even although customers are arriving late on the morning they should receive freshly prepared products as described and that the experience was not great and I did not think I would repeat the morning tea in the future as the experience was not great- this was before we had moved on the the scone and the “sweet treat” no one returned and asked about those.
The team also need to look at the tray stands as the paint is flaking off them.
So my last review for afternoon tea was 5 star the morning tea unfortunately would be 2.5 - 3 . Kitchen food service let us and the lodge on Loch Lomond team down yesterday. I would not be in a...
Read moreWe arrived for our business lunch to discover that on line menu was not the same as the one in the venue. Our first let down - the updated one was lacking in any real choice and left me feeling let down.
As stated the updated menu had a very disappointing selection - leaving me the Burger as the only acceptable option. The choice was very poor and limited.
We were taken to our table and a drink order taken - 25 minutes passed without any drinks - then we were told that there was no lemonade for the mixers.
The £11.50 House Rose wine was far from ideal, my colleague found it to be overly sweet and a little below average.
The food arrived - my fries were several dozen colours- from off white to over fried brown - indicating they were not freshly fried and possibly refried several times or from different batches.
The Ceasar salad was adequate - but not of a particularly high standard.
The beautiful setting is secondary when you are served such mediocre food.
The bottom line is that it was incredibly disappointing - a wonderful location is fine - it certainly helps - but the establishment and restaurant were a millon miles away from the grandure and excellence of the Loch side vista and setting.
A very poor selection of food on the menu - chaos with our drinks - long wait for beverage - not nearly good enough.
I would be considering other restaurants when I next plan lunch - a very long journey with a disappointing outcome.
A day of eager anticipation ruined - lesson learned - would have seriously had a better meal at the Balloch McDonald's - I jest you not....
Read moreI booked for three of us to enjoy a ‘morning tea’ which comprised of a fully cooked breakfast followed by tea and cakes including fresh cream fruit scones. We had a warm welcome on arrival and escorted to our table. We sat at the window overlooking Loch Lomond. The sun shine glistened on the still water as we watched paddle boarders, pedalos and kayaks gently go by. After a few minutes David arrived with our cooked breakfasts one of which was gluten free. Beautifully presented on a skillet I could immediately see a poached egg, bacon, sausage and tomato. However, as I made my way through the breakfast there were hidden surprises of black pudding, haggis and mushroom too. It was absolutely delicious every morsel of it. It’s so difficult to find a really fabulous gluten free option and this restaurant and team surpassed all expectations. The cake selection again was fabulous set on what I would describe as a half bird cage cake stand. Each shelf with its own selection of cakes, scones, jam, cream and a fruit compote. We weren’t rushed and when we needed a top of fresh tea the team were on hand and only too willing to oblige. I may have gone on a bit however, if you really do want to enjoy a top notch experience in a beautiful setting then this will more than exceed your expectations of that I am sure. Well done to the team...
