El Toro Gaucho - Bathgate — Restaurant in Scotland

Made a reservation, reservation was cancelled. Please do not offer reservations at times you cannot offer them, I set aside the rest of my night to come.

Update: restaurant called my personal phone after leaving a bad review claiming my review was unfair given I booked for half nine and they close at ten. This should not matter as reservations were left open to this time, plenty of other places cook through to closing, you could have just as easily closed bookings if it was not available for that time.

I did not review your atmosphere or your food as you can see in my stars, only the service I personally received, for all I know those could be excellent.

Edit 2: Judging by further reviews it would seem this is not an isolated issue, and the further reply to this review pretty much just outlines what I said, I fully understand the situation, that does not however change the fact that the booking was made. I recieved the first call to tell me the booking was to be cancelled around 10 minutes before the booking was due, I have email and call reciepts to prove this. Once again, I firmly believe the booking just should have been closed before you closed the kitchen to stop this being an issue.

The service was abysmal. We were asked multiple times if we had put in our drinks order by different waitresses which suggests they don't have a good system. Chipped glass, only one steak knife (4 people), missing dishes, wrong dessert order and a mistake on the bill that they decided to argue about instead of making it right. Not to mention it took forever.

The atmosphere was ok except it was packed so it was hard to hear others at our table.

The food was hit and miss. The steak seemed decent quality but we ordered 4 steaks and they all varied in temperature even though they were all ordered medium rare. Fries were unseasoned and I am pretty sure the onion rings were frozen. I was looking forward to the some fresh chimichurri but I ended up surprised that the US wasn't invading the restaurant for the insane amount of oil in the cup. Overall we were disappointed in the quality.

I had heard it was better to book. So I did and glad I did. Saturday 27th Apr, busy time. The restaurant is quite small but that does not stop it from having a good atmosphere, it's tastefully decorated. The staff were attentive and the service was very good. The menu is specifically steak but there are other options. See pictures of menu. The food was served on hot plates which is always a good sign. My wife and I both had steak which was cooked just as we asked for. Along with a variety of sides like fries, mini roasts, onion rings, broccoli and sauces like whisky or garlic.
