Golden Valley Newton Mearns — Restaurant in Scotland

First time here. It was a Thursday night, restaurant just over half full.

Staff very friendly and professional. Jackie our main server, not only gave some great recommendations but also put a smile on our faces.

Decor very nice, comfy with some nice touches. Felt comfortable with friends but definitely would also suit for a more romantic occasion.

Food. Starters. Hot and sour soup, Chicken satay, short rib beef Korean style, Satay roll and curry roll. All tasted great, cooked well, great flavour and not greasy at all. The side sauces were also very good and full of flavour.

Mains. Crispy aromatic duck, Szechuan style chicken, and Mongolian clay pot beef. All were fantastic.

All the meat was fresh, good cuts and cooked to perfection. The sauces and flavours were almost as good as it gets for a East Asian restaurant. This comes as a very welcome surprise with it being so local. Will definitely go back and try the seafood set menu next time.

I have visited golden valley on numerous occasions and on this occasion was extremely disappointed. On the 22nd of September I placed an order for a chicken chow mein, a portion of rice, chicken satay and salt and chilli chips. I was told my pick-up time was 9pm which was a 50-minute wait from the time I phoned which I can understand as it was a busy Saturday night however, I then waited a further 20 minutes and wasn't made aware of any delays until I got there. This was not too much of an issue but I then got home and we had received a portion of noodles instead of rice which then meant we essentially had two portions of noodles which wasn't ideal but again wasn't too big of a deal. Unfortunately, the situation only got worse when I got half way through the chow mein and found a screw in the meal. I sent pictures and golden valley assured me this would be dealt with and offered me a partial refund which I agreed to. I went to The Golden Valley with a friend for lunch on Wednesday the 21st August, I ordered a Chicken curry which came and the first bit of chicken I tasted seemed mushy inside, I continued to eat it as I thought first of all it maybe my imagination. I continued to eat probably just over half of it, left the rest. I should of known, anyway Thursday I started to feel a tad unwell, Friday I had excruciating stomach pain and felt sick which resulted on the toilet for most of the day. Without question Food Poisoning, not the only one thats been caught out if you look down the reviews ! I was still feeling so ill Sunday and Monday. My friend had also a chicken dish but not the same and had to run to the toilet immediately he got home, thankfully he was local and didnt get a serious bout of food poisoning. I had been there twice before and tbh it was passible. Neither of us will never enter into this establishment again. I will never deviate from The Ho Wong...
