We decided to try The Ship Inn for dinner. We did not have reservations but we were there early enough that they were able to get us I. Right away. I ordered the lamb rump roast and my wife had the fish curry. Both were outstanding and well presented. The service was prompt and the staff courteous. The place is clean and appears well run. We enjoyed ourselves in more ways than just the food since the banter with the staff was fun too. The inside is not what we expected in that it was modernized and not left traditional. Overall it was an excellent choice for us. If you haven’t been here, you must go. If you have been here, you must go back. We know we will!

Although everything was quite good I was disappointed with my burger. First the good part. Had crevettes and they seemed fresh and were very tasty. Best Marie Rose sauce I've ever tried. My partner's risotto was very good. On to my burger. It was very simple for the type of restaurant. Onion rings looked like supermarket frozen onion rings. Same with the bun. The way it was all put together was poor. Also, I believe that the restaurant shouldn't be offering any sauces in sachets. It does not match with the ambience of the restaurant. It's a very nice restaurant and I'd highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Food wasn't what I'd expected. Salmon was quite hard like it had been left out. Maybe less salmon and more prawns would be a good idea. Steak pie for main (moved this from centre of veg to the side for picture). Wasn't impressed with that either. Pie was over seasoned as well as the gravy. The mash was just strange and the veg was just a little on the hard side. Friends had the haddock and chips and said it was brilliant and husband had lamb and said it was lovely. Expected better for the price. Presentation was lovely on all dishes. Warm welcoming atmosphere and nice surroundings to have a meal.

Before this visit the ship was just a place on my radar that had beyond average food and drink. Always my last choice for a drink and a bite to eat due it being consistently underwhelming and disappointing which to me doesn't warrant a review. That said after being followed across the road and shouted at by staff I feel the need to express the 1 star this place already earned.

Refused food due to it being "fully booked" despite there being several empty tables without reservations. Questioned that and expressed frustration. Left, came back in, asked for drinks and got refused again "we're not serving you". Obviously upset at being treated like garbage the moment we walked in we left, walked across the road to see that one of the staff had followed my family across the road and was shouting. Security stops at the door, he made it a personal issue.

Horrendous service. Aggressive staff. Undercooked boring food. (From when I've eaten in the past)....

We visited this restaurant 4 times during our recent holiday in Gatehouse of Fleet and we just can’t fault it. Everything we ordered on the menu was delicious & beautifully presented. The food is locally sourced which is just what we wanted. Our favourite dishes included the starters of salmon/prawns, scallops & soup, main courses of fish chowder, steak pie & venison casserole and of course the Sunday roast (beef). We loved the desserts too especially the sticky toffee pudding & cheese board. On each visit we always received a very warm and friendly welcome from head waiter, Martin, who couldn’t do enough for us. He always got our dog a bowl of water too & came back during each course to ensure everything was to our liking. We just can’t recommend this restaurant enough - they have an amazing chef & we only wish we lived nearer so that we could visit more often. We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip...

Food was tasty but the food was only luke warm and served on cold plates. One of the desserts was profiteroles and sat on a mountain of cream as well as a side dish of cream and filled with cream. Far too much and very sickly. We had 2 salmon and monkfish encroute, 2 large envelopes of pastry with hardly any fish and pastry cold and soggy. We all felt that the lights were a bit bright and could have done with them being turned down, and some candles on the tables to give a nice ambiance. There were a few attempts by waitresses to deliver food that wasn't ours. Overall a bit disappointing. With the future opening of the Murray arms Laggan they need to...
