We have been staying in gatehouse of fleet on a family holiday as a family of 16. We had been on a walk and called in at iron brew on the way back to our cars, as we turned up it stated they would do food until 4 and as we arrived they told us it was coffee and cake only but was only 3.15pm! Only 2 people out of 16 wanted to eat the rest were just having cake and coffee.

Then the staff got very very arsy and began to be funny with us. They were very patronising towards us when taking our order. Especially the lady who had glasses on behind the till working in a place where you are dealing with public think she needs to have a personality transplant to deal with people in more of a pleasant manner.

Also for then our scones to come out with off cream that was rock solid and frozen and could not use and to be told they are all the same and they would not give us a different one… A very poor experience in this cafe and will not be returning to this small independent cafe again. Thinking back on our experience of we had come in individual groups they would have served us food!!! Hopefully they can make changes to make peoples experiences better...

Wonderful place !

I stopped over while cycle touring a few days ago, had a veggie all day breakfast before closing time. Very fresh and well made, abundant ! I felt very welcome and the staff were really kind, the young man who served me was also handsome and funny 😁

I enjoyed the decor, having a look at the books, listening to the music they had on... people were relaxed. I had eaten too much to have desert, but I did end up leaving with a twix and a scone to go, which were very precious and delicious in the evening and the day after. I have been touring for three weeks now across the UK and Scotland and this place really stuck with me. There was also a lovely little park nearby, which allowed for some walks in nature, had I not been on my bike. I clearly recommend, do give in to temptation in this...

Apparently were short staffed though seemed plenty for the few tables in there at a later time , maybe turn people away if you cant cope. Everything we ordered was wrong and it was filthy. Had we not driven so far wouldve walked back out after having to ask twice for table to be cleaned (when it was, only half done with previous persons crumbs left ) very pricey for what food came. Left totally disappointed.

Edit as i cant reply. Was not on Saturday, i didn't say it was? So to imply what im saying "simply isnt true" adds insult to injury. Was weeks ago but was talking about it (a client staying in Gatehouse bought it up) and was reccomended to leave a review. I have no reason to leave a false one? Im going to guess most of the good ones are left by friends and family! so will take them with a pinch of salt...

This is a great wee food stop in an attractive little town. High quality food including home baking and freshly made all day breakfasts. Their haggis and cheese panini with chilli jam is the best I've had in a long time. Great coffee. Friendly and efficient service and the best decorated loo. Dog friendly. And we're here again 6 months later and it's even better. Just look at the menu for dogs, it's beyond lovely. Coffee and food just as great and the staff so warm and friendly. I would love to have Iron Brew on my street corner.

I can’t say enough good things about The Iron Brew. From the moment we walked in the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Ciara, Rachael & Michelle were all so lovely and friendly towards our dog Kevin too, who can sometimes be nervy towards people. They spent time making sure he was ok and very kindly offered him some treats & a puppachino which he devoured. Thank you for making Kevin’s experience with humans so positive both times we’ve been in recently. We will be back!

Around noon when we visited, the waitress was kind, welcomed us in, answered any questions we had, and was more than helpful. She really added to what was already a welcoming and lovely atmosphere. Additionally, a variety of modern day hits played on their radio which as a tourist was very enjoyable. I can not say enough kind and sincerely honest words about this place. If you are a local or a tourist, swing on by, you will feel right at home and enjoy some great food.
