I attended with my family of 5. My youngest son (12) is autistic. The service started off fine, ordering drinks and leaving us to browse the menu for a sufficient amount of time.
My wife and I ordered Hunters chicken with the upgrade to Southern fried chicken and pulled pork. We also ordered sharing nachos with no jalapenos or chillies.
The order was taken and arrived at the table in a reasonable amount of time.
This is where our experience starts to go down hill........
The upgraded Hunters chicken that my wife and I ordered was not upgraded, instead just the standard Hunters Chicken. The sharing nachos that was ordered with no Jalapenos or chillies arrived with loads of jalapenos which my wife and I had to pick off. Both these dishes were very disappointing and not what was ordered.
Now you may ask why we didn't send these 3 dishes back? I'll draw your attention back to the very start where I said my youngest son is autistic.
He gets very impatient and upset having to wait about for long periods of time. If we sent these dishes back this would have added more stress to my wife and I and my son who we were already trying to pacify with the wait for the food not to mention my other 2 children.
So as not to prolong my son's wait or stress levels any more we settled for the food that was brought to the table. Although not happy. Also no staff attended back at our table as a courtesy to ask if everything was ok with our order.
We finished our meal and sat for what seemed a age waiting for our plates to be cleared so we could order a sweet.
Again my autistic son was becoming inpatient and vocal which was stressing him out and the rest of the family. We were also aware that other guests were eating and we didn't want to lessen their experience with my son becoming vocal.
Eventually after what seemed an age I left the table to go seek out a waitress or waiter. When I did eventually find a waitress I found her on her personal mobile phone. The restaurant wasn't that busy either I may add. I had to ask if she could attend and take our sweet order.
This was clearly unacceptable.
The waitress attended cleared out plates then re attended to take out sweet order.
From what started out as a family treat soon become a stressful choir and our treat was very much ruined from the moment our meals arrived at the table and the proceedings events.
There was a few positives in that the food that arrived was fine along with the sweets. Also one of the chicken dishes we ordered arrived with a drizzle of barbecue sauce on it for my autistic son which he wouldn't have eaten. This was our fault for not reading the menu properly. We asked if we could have another portion siting the reason why. Which was granted.
But these 3 small positives where far out weighted by the negatives.
We have not been at The Old Plane Tree for well over 4 years and back then I'd say the service was poor. 4 years on it doesn't seemed to have improved.
I appreciate that customers don't want to be rushed during their visit. But with a little more attention to detail my family experience could have been a whole lot better.
All in all The Old Plane Tree was a bad experience and as a family I would say this is the last The Old Plane Tree will see us.

We specifically chose here as we wanted a Sunday roast and they had advertised on their facebook today that they were doing Sunday Roasts with 30% off. We ordered online by scanning the QR code and a while later someone came over to say they weren’t doing roasts the full of January! We found this odd considering the Facebook advert that was posted today and the fact my order has successfully went through online. I showed the Facebook post to the manager and she apologised but said it was an automatic post made by head office. We decided to order different food and then waited 1 and a half hours (from our booking time) and an hour from when our original order went in, for our food. When it came we discovered the pizza that was ordered on the original order had also been cancelled and not put through on the new order (although we were only asked to choose new meals for the roasts they couldn’t provide). After having to speak to a staff member yet again, as my daughter still had no dinner after an hour and a half, I went back to cut in to my steak and that was the final straw. I asked for medium rare and it was literally blue and freezing inside and like leather on the outside!
At this point I took the steak over to the manager and advised we would be leaving without having our food. I have no idea how a restaurant can be ran so poorly with such lack of customer service and common sense and would love to know how customers are expected to know Sunday roasts are not available throughout January due to chefs being trained on how to make pizzas 🤷♀️ Every table around us also had issues and another table had also came for the advertised Sunday Roast. Read moreTerrible experience! Came along tonight thinking that we would get a pleasant and quick meal but we were wrong. Arrived about 6.10pm where no one was there to greet us or take us to a table. So we waited for about 5mins then decided to look for a table ourselves. They were staff present but none of them acknowledged us so we went ahead until we were grudgingly sat seconds later asif the waitress was annoyed with us. We sat for about 15mins waiting for our server to take our drinks/ meal order as the app didn't seem to offer us what we wanted. We waited for about 25mins for our starters, which certainly weren't worth the wait. The portion sizes for what you give and for the price you charge is absolutely disgraceful. £5.99 for 4 wings and £5.00 for 3 cheese melts. So after finishing our starters it was about 40mins till we finally decided to ask our server Ross where our food was and how long it would be? We were told that it was the next ticket, but when we arrived the place was empty. We actually thought the place was closing, so I can't and don't understand why the food was taking so long? When the food arrived my wee girl was already wanting her last bottle and bed as she waited that long for her fish fingers. Our own meals weren't much better, my fish was greasy chips were cold and my mates burger was like a Rustler burger, cheap and not the best looking. Extremely poor customer service, terrible food, ridiculous portions sizes and just a really disappointing experience. £80.01 on the worst meal and dining experience I've ever had.
