Not quite sure where I should start. Myself and my fiance are always looking for new restaurants to try and we always read the reviews before we book a table. We clearly didn't do our homework before attending the Royal Garden. To begin with I have never been to China ..but I'm pretty sure their royal Garden would not smell as foul as this restaurant did when we first walked in. It resembled something from the 80s, it is smelly dark and dated and pretty prehistoric. We gave it the benefit of the doubt and ordered dinner. We had a choice of menus and I ordered from the pre theatre menu and my partner choose from the al a carte. Barbeque spare ribs I ordered for a starter... these came out dry (no sauce) I asked the waitress where the barbeque was, she explained unless they were ordered from the other menu they came dry. She then offered me some barbecue sauce and this would be an additional charge ! Which I gladly accepted. When they emerged from the kitchen they were the same dry ribs with a touch of tasteless barbeque sauce on them. My partners salt and chilli ribs were not too bad to be fair. The mains.... I choose the sweet n sour chicken which to be fair was edible..if you like microwave sweet n sour. My partners combination chow mein was certainly a combination... a combination of something that resembled slops. Mixed meat which was under cooked on a bed of which looked like super noodles , most of which were half cooked and still crunchy actually that's an insult to bachelor's who make super noodles. The soup (gravy) that should be thick and tasty covering the chow mein was like greasy dish water. We refused the sweet menu and swiftly paid and left. Any one thinking of attending the Royal garden.. maybe consider getting a takeaway and staying in your own garden .it will taste better and certainly smell better. We won't be backš© how this place is functional I...

This was a great meal. The restaurant was busy and there was even a birthday celebration. Glad to see everyone enjoying themselves.
Time - 10 mins for the starter. I was there for about an hour and a half in total.
Presentation - see pics. The Chicken with Green Peppers in Black Bean Sauce even had a white rose in it. (I didn't eat that lol)
Quality - 4/5 - The quality was exceptional and very tasty. Everything was cooked perfectly. Compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area this was probably the best experience I've had dining in.
Quantity - 3/5 - not too much or too little but there was only 4 chicken balls in the starter. The main courses were very filling and they supplied plenty of rice and noodles in the chow mein.
Value for money - Very Good compared to similar places. Worked out less than £20 per person with a drink.
Additionally - all in all a great dining experience and the service was second to none very quick and efficient considering how busy they were and doing takeaways at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been going to this restaurant for years unfortunately last night was disappointing as the service totally let them down. My husband has Alzheimers so we need a quick turn over on waiting times as he gets agitated. They know he has this. Well seemingly you get better treatment /service if you order a la carte as it was mentioned several times. We ordered from the special menu and felt like 2nd class citizens. 3 tables that arrived well after us got served their meals before us. Their meals were complete and we were still eating our main meal. I'm really...
