Popped in to the Avenue this morning after moving to the area for a coffee and a scone. The coffee was good as was the service however the scone was shockingly bad it was something from a supermarket multi pack that had been defrosted the butter was solid also. Just not acceptable if you cant do it well don't do it at all. I was offered a full refund. Its nearly 2018 catch up guys!!! I asked for toast on arrival and was advised this isn't something they do if your open at 1030 am I feel this is something that should be on offer. I asked for my remaining coffee to be put into a takeaway cup I was advised this isn't something they do this seemed odd to me. Music quiet in comparison to folk chatting and probably not great for elderly or the hard of hearing. Atmosphere generally lively and good for families including kids. This is great for this type of restaurant. Staff all friendly and couldn't do enough for you - can't fault them at all. Set Menu for Fathers Day priced the same as The Ivy but I can't honestly say they held the same standard for all of the courses. Had topside of beef which was incredibly fatty - usually a leaner cut. Cauliflower cheese was inconsistent with mines quite watery but others was perfect! Overall food was decent otherwise (especially the starters were lovely. Visited on a Sunday with family from England Ordered prawn cocktail..bland ! Mains were a selection ,the chicken Balmoral which should have had the haggis inside it,was presented with haggis under Luke warm mash Mediocre at best,I've dished up better at home !
