We were meeting friends for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and decided to get a table in the soft play area to let the kids have a run about.
We booked over the phone and Linda was an absolute pleasure to talk to and I was really looking forward to the visit after hanging up the phone.
Sadly, the cheerful trill of Linda was not replicated on arrival at the restaurant. We were checked in at the entrance and then pointed in direction of the soft play where we were told that the staff there would sort us. After being checked in again in the soft play area we were taken to our unprepared table which didn't take long to push together.
The server took our drink order pretty quickly and she navigated her way through the maze of children amazingly well. (Kudos to putting drinks in plastic glasses in the play area). The food menu was unfortunately rather unappealing with a very limited choice. The vegetarian options actually had more appeal but were a bit too pricey.
We ordered 4 roasts and (which the menu promises arrive pink) and 2 kids meals. The adult meals arrived before the kids meals which wasn't a good start. The gravy covering the roasts was tasty, but none of the roasts were pink and in fact took some amount of chewing to break down. The broccoli was brown looking and rather flaccid. The peas were at least still green. A rather surprising find in my dinner was a chicken nugget nestled in amongst my roast potatoes and the less said about the Yorkshire pudding the better.
The meal had lost all it's appeal by this point for all 4 diners. It was simply the fear of getting a sub standard desert at the prices they were charging put me off ordering one.
I would commend the staff in the kids area who made sure we were well looked after and never felt like we were abandoned (whilst they had a birthday party on). However in the very quiet main restaurant the staff seemed to be squirreled away.
I would have to say, that if you are in the area, I would avoid this establishment for food and head somewhere with a more diverse menu. My kids did however have a great time in the soft play and will...
Read moreThis is the worst food I have had so far this year. I stay in hotels 3 times per week, all over the UK and eating out 4 times per week. I ordered a gluten-free chicken stack burger. After 30 minutes of waiting, I enquired to learn that the staff member had forgotten to put the order through the till. Once ordered again, the food arrived. The bun was replaced with 2 slices of bread cut into a circle. The meat was solid and not fresh, I'd say, reheated in the microwave. It was disgusting, and I binned it. This dish cost £15.99. I attempted to share my disgust, and no one seemed interested. Never will I eat here again.
13/03/24: I said never again.... I was seeing a client site and was with a colleague who wanted to have a quick bite to eat. We had been driving since 1pm and arrived here at 6 pm, so we needed food quickly before attending the site at 7 pm. We ordered the pie and chips (see photos). As we ordered, we heard an elderly couple on the next table complaining that their food was not to standard. A manager attended, and we heard him say that the fois is pre-prepared and warmed up in a microwave or an air fryer. They had a refund. Our pie and chips arrived. I pulled out 4 small pieces of meat from my pie. It was mostly pastry and gravy. We complained and a member of staff said she would tell the manager. We watched her tell the manager, a male wearing black trousers, a grey shirt, a bald head, he and other staff were laughing. This was disgusting and unprofessional behaviour. We spoke with staff at our hotel (holiday inn), and they also confirmed that many if the guest complain about the pub food and staff. This time, I am definitely reporting this to Greene King to...
Read moreMy brother, my Gran, my niece and I all went here for lunch, my brother picked it because it had a large soft play area that my niece could play in, he hadn't realised that you had to book a table in the play area but the staff were lovely about it, letting us sit at a table while they had a small gap in bookings so that my niece could play.
The staff were lovely and friendly, so attentive and they honestly seemed like they loved their jobs. They served us drinks and our starter in the soft play area then helped us move through to our proper table when the time came, we had a absolutely lovely camembert wheel with toast and chutney to share as well as the sweet potato, chickenpea and red pepper koftas to share and both were lovely. The mains were lovely as well, Gran had a chargrilled duck salad which she said was very nice, my brother had the steak and ribs which he thoroughly enjoyed, and the ribs were really good as well, nice and tender, sizeable amounts of meat on there! I had the steak sandwich which was lovely, the steak was melt in the mouth, no grizzle, and tasted really nice.
We were served mainly by Linda and she was absolutely lovely, very enthusiastic and attentive, great with my niece and was really nice to Gran, offering her a takeaway box for the salad she couldn't finish and really quick at getting us anything we needed. A young man also served us a time or two and was nice as was the young blonde lass that was in the kids area, all in all a really nice experience and we would be really happy to...
