I recently had the pleasure of spending a delightful day at Dores Inn, and I still find myself reminiscing about the experience six months later. Nestled along the shores of the iconic Loch Ness, this charming inn offers a perfect blend of stunning views, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance that sets the tone for a relaxing visit. The inn has ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to find a cozy spot to enjoy the picturesque scenery. We opted for an outside table, and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. The views of the loch were absolutely breathtaking, providing a serene backdrop for our meal.
Speaking of the meal, I must rave about the food—simply sublime! I usually find coleslaw unappealing, but Dores Inn's homemade version was a game changer. It was fresh, flavorful, and complemented our dishes beautifully. Every bite was a testament to the culinary care that goes into their offerings.
After our satisfying meal, we joined a Rib-Boat journey on the loch, which was an exhilarating way to experience the surroundings. The thrill of speeding across the water, combined with the breathtaking views of the loch and its mythical charm, made for an unforgettable adventure.
As a memento of our day, I couldn't resist purchasing one of their handmade crochet teddies of Nessie. It's now a cherished keepsake that brings back fond memories of our visit.
To wrap up our day, we took a leisurely walk along the shoreline. The tranquility of the loch, coupled with the stunning natural beauty surrounding us, was the perfect ending to a fantastic day.
Overall, Dores Inn exceeded my expectations in every way. From the lovely atmosphere and great views to the delectable food and friendly service, it’s a place I highly recommend. If you're looking for an exceptional day out near Loch Ness, don’t miss the opportunity to visit this gem. I still think about that wonderful day, and I can’t...
Read moreThe location combined with friendly staff and amazing food is great. However it's not as cosy inside as it looks outside which is a shame.
We had the burger and haggis: The burger has 2 patties, cheese, onions and bacon plus chips and a small coleslaw will definitely leave you feeling full but tastes great. The haggis, neeps and tatties is also a very generous portion. The haggis is, I assume, fried off a little giving it a slight crisp around the edges which is a nice additional texture to the combined neeps and tatties mash. The whiskey gravy compliments the dish and also is the perfect portion to accompany it.
The few Scottish ales they had on draught were delicious otherwise there are a pleather of mainstream beers and wine.
Being at the top of the Loch Ness definitely makes it a spectacular place to sit and eat or drink, especially on a sunny day. Unfortunately for us it was raining the whole time which was a shame as the beer garden looked great.
There's also plenty of parking so that shouldn't be an issue upon arrival if needed.
Otherwise the inside is very modern with laminate flooring throughout and white walls which is nice if you want that kind of environment. But from the outside it looks like it should have loads of character which feels like it's been lost on the inside. This is the only reason why for me it has 4 instead of 5 stars along with the tables being fairly...
Read moreThis was one of the worst pubs out there.
The staff was a delight so no blame goes towards them but instead is directed at bad management and structural/functional design.
The entrance of the bar is a small white door with a little sign indicating it's the entrance. In no way is it inviting you to come in as a customer, you might even miss the entrance overall because it is so nonchalant.
Once entered the reception is mediocre if you want a table to sit at. I describe it as mediocre because it is uncertain where you could ask for a table. It could be easily fixed by indicating where to order or get a table.
Ordering food and drinks is done at the bar. We ordered some sandwiches and drinks. Once we sat down at our table the waiter went to our table to tell us sandwiches are not served on Sundays. This would not be a problem if we didn't already pay for the sandwiches at the counter. Why not indicate this at the counter?
The food we got as substitute was ok. Not bad not good. We received drinks in cheap looking plastic cups which is fine if the prices for drinks is kept low.
Overall this destination should only ever be used to take a leak or get some water. I would not recommend this...
