After visiting Dunskey castle we popped here for a meal. This place advertised as a bar & restaurant. There was 4 of us on our visit and when we walked in we could smell the cooked fat and just smelt like a greasy spoon cafe, the smell was really strong (the extraction was either none existent or not working who knows) it was that bad tho even when the sun was shining you could see the haze within the restaurant (see photos). While we were eating a lady and her children came in and also commented on the smell. The restaurant its self was pleasantly decorated the furniture was of a good quality and it was quite light and warm feeling. The member of staff was pleasant and helpful, patient and attentive. The food, as I’ve said there was 4 of us and 3 of us all ordered fish and chips and 1 ordered Cajun Chicken Panini The fish and chips… in my opinion I strongly believe that the fish frozen fish pieces. The fish were all the exact same size and shape. It was a little wet but this was not because it had not been cooked long enough it was strange. The chips were not chips they were French fries, this was not fish and chips it was frozen processed fish and French fries. We were all starving and eat the majority of it out of hunger rather than enjoying the food. The Cajun chicken was quite nice and tasty. We had 3 x fish and chips we think costing £48 1 x cajan chicken panini we think costing £9 3 x cans of coke not sure of price 1 x pint of cider. Not sure of price Total cost £72, so from what I can gather we were either ripped off or 3 cans of coke and 1 pint of cider cost around £15 Would we visit here again NO DEFINITELY NOT

Takeaway - Underwhelming & Overpriced 2 basic burgers and chips with side of onion rings - £26!!! Called ahead to check doing takeaways and if it would be the whole menu or still just a small takeaway menu to which I was informed the full menu. We got excited as the photos of their food on recent Facebook posts looked great. Called up to order a Galloway burger and Battered Chicken burger but told they are not takeaway options by another member of staff so swapped to a beef burger which we added cheese and bacon plus a cajun chicken burger. Also added a side of onion rings. Collected and unwrapped burgers at our holiday lodge to find no salad or sauces, these were not offered at any point either - you probably have to ask for these! Just two basic burgers and some chips with onion rings. They tasted ok but nothing special. Even at half the price we would have been disappointed. Sorry but takeaway not worth it! Maybe sitting in restaurant might be better. Ps we added the grated cheese to the chips in the photo.

TLDR; Remote bar and restaurant that's external appearance doesn't do justice. Decent food at a reasonable price. Located off the beaten track beside a static caravan site, don't be put off the drab external appearance of The Galloway. It houses a modern and clean bar and restaurant at prices which won't make your eyes water. Food is a mixed bag, some fresh and some frozen. Though it must be noted that everything tasted great. Drinks are a plenty, though limited to which largers are available or in stock. Ice cream, along with many other desserts, coffees and cakes are available too. All in all a lovely place for a bite to eat with attentive and friendly staff.

Ordered a takeaway whilst staying at the caravan park, we were informed that it would be ready in 1 hour, arrived to collect and had to wait an additional 30 mins for what I can only describe as the worst takeaway food I have ever experienced. Worst macaroni I’ve ever had, dry, tasteless and congealed, Lasagne was much the same, dry and tasteless and the Cajun chicken burger was so dry and hard it was almost inedible, very poor also that the extremely dry burger arrived on a dry roll with no salad or mayo/sauce. Very disappointing overall and definitely would not be eat from here again. Don’t waste your money, I would rather give no stars if I could, awful unless you enjoy overcooked unseasoned food that takes an extremely long time to...
