I went to collect a takeaway on Sunday after 4pm. The restaurant was not busy and it was just me in there when I went to collect. I ordered chicken tikka masala, chips and a naan bread. The container was half filled with what looked like watered down sauce. I could count 6 pieces of tiny chicken and I could count the chips because the portion was so tiny. The naan bread was soggy and seemed like it had been microwaved. By the way the photo was everything on the plate bar the naan bread, and no I haven't half eaten it. I'm sorry but how is that good value for £13.75? My photo can be seen on trip advisor - they have removed my photo because they know how bad my meal was.

My family and I had lovely time at The Jewel In The Crown. It's BYOB, you're being advised of it whilst making a booking and waiters happily offer a glass for your beverage on arrival. Selection of the food was really impressive, both meat and vegetarian options. We went for recommendations (sorry, can't really remember names of the dishes) from one of the waiters who was super helpful and accommodating, and we were not disappointed. Portions were big and very satisfying. Service all together was great, very attentive and accommodating. In general, it's a perfect spot for a family meal as well as visit with your friends. Definaly we'll be back. Thank you!

First impressions - the outside of the restaurant was clean and very well maintained. Inside was just as clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and polite. We ordered the dinner for two meal deal. We got loads of food and it was all delicious. I would highly recommend the Jewel for a top quality meal. Thanks.

Very friendly and attentive staff especially the owner. The popadom and chutney tray pre-starter was excellent particularly the tamarind sauce. We asked if we could buy some of the tamarind sauce, they gave us two small tubs without charge. Our main courses were chicken Luari and prawn Rogan Josh with Pilau rice, both were large portions and delicious. We had no room for a desert. The cost was a very reasonable £17 pp with no service charge. We left a very well deserved tip. The Jewel In The Crown does not have an alcohol licence but customers are able to BYO. Glasses are provided and their is non corkage charge. There is a good range of non-alcoholic drinks. We live 100 miles from Castle Douglas so unfortunately will not be able to return to The Jewel In The Crown often. We will be back whenever we are in the area. The owner did tell us about an ex-employee who now has the Thai Valley restaurant in Selkirk. This is only 20 miles from home so we will be visiting soon, hoping it is as good as The Jewel...

I have had Meals in this restaurant a few times and meals have been good most of the time, however the takeaways seem to be of lower quality.

Tonight 13th June I had a very bland chicken korma ( how could they mess that up) tasted better out a jar , very disappointing !!

My onion bajis which are normally spot on were a unique mix of burnt on the outside but uncooked on the inside, disgusting, again throughly disappointing and would take some convincing for me to order food in any capacity from this restaurant again.

For the so called food town, Castle Douglas is slowly becoming the “Food if you can find something worth eating town” and the jewel in the crown isn’t helping by letting its standards slip

I would and do expect my takeaway food to be of equally good quality as sitting in your restaurant, if you can’t provide that then you will lose customers.

I hope you read these reviews and react to what people are...

I usually enjoy the food from here and we always get the same thing. tonight we had to wait 40 minutes longer on top of the original 30 minutes for pick up and this isn't the first time this has happened but we were happy to order from here again as the food is good. when I arrived I could hear customers who were dining in asking when their food was coming as they had been waiting longer than expected even though there was very few customers. when I finally received my order and took it home it was inedible. The spice levels were very high and like I said I always order the same thing but we simply couldn't eat our food it was far too spicy. The chicken pakora starter was over cooked, dry and too hard to bite. When we have dined in, the food has been great and no problems but always seem to have something going wrong when we order a takeaway. We are disappointed that we couldn't eat our food that we were looking...
