Server or owner has the worst attitude I’ve ever seen.
With a sign that says “You have two choices for dinner. Take it or leave it.” She definitely gives that attitude to all customers.
Food You can’t mess up a sandwich is how I would describe this place. Food came out too quick to be done properly.
Rib eye steak Steak was cooked right. It was rare but it was grey and all I could taste was the burnt grill marks. No seasoning. Felt dry like freezer burn. Probably one of the worst steaks I’ve had.
Chips were okay, not crispy enough.
Haggis tower Haggis was good. Very rich. When asked about how big the main portion of haggis tower was the servers English wasnt good enough explain it.
“Chicken” When I ordered a “chicken and bacon club” I got a chicken fillet. When I asked about it she said “I asked you multiple times if you wanted chicken fillet.” My whole table of 5 agreed that she never once confirmed with me. I think she tried to lie on the spot about the meal as it was already made and in her hands. She tried to coerce me into accepting it saying “are you sure you can’t just take this?” It might have been fine but it had boiled vegetables which didn’t look seasoned. When my sandwich did arrive it was a regular BLT instead of the chicken club I originally ordered, but she charged me for the “chicken” - the chicken fillet, which cost more than the chicken club, which I didn’t order or eat.
Venison meal Average, little gamey, came with a scallop potato which wasn’t on the menu which oddly enough was the best part. Boiled vegetables need some salt and seasoning.
Kids meal Our friend didn’t like the menu options and wanted a small portion. Their kids menu had chicken bites with fries and Mac and cheese. She asked for those but our server was irritated and refused to take her order because she was ordering from the kids menu. It took a bit of persuasion to allow us to order them items.
Mac and cheese Was good but you shouldn’t use penne noodles for “Kids Macaroni and Cheese”. It’s described in the name “macaroni”. It’s not penne and cheese.
Odd one but asking for anything seemed to annoy them. Even just asking for ketchup.
Drinks Tap water and pot of tea. Not much to say.
Parking Lots of spaces. No fee.
Bathrooms Nice and clean. Locked well.
Atmosphere Definitely a bit dated but at the end of the day it comes down to service and food.
Payment Tried to persuade us to tip after all those mistakes - in addition to charging us for the chicken fillet instead of the chicken club, therein increasing the price of our bill.
Overall Would not recommend purely based on the servers. They look hard working but seem like it’s gotten to them and have just become jaded. Take it if it’s the only place open but...
Read moreStepping into The Loft Restaurant feels like discovering a hidden chapter of a quaint village tale. Nestled above the mundane via a mystic stairwell, the entrance sets a tone of ascending into a secret gastronomic enclave. The rustic chic decor embraces you, as if walking into a warmly lit, culinary-focused lodge, presided over by convivial staff whose welcoming smiles act as preludes to the meal ahead.
My culinary journey began ambitiously with venison dressed in a red berry sauce. The game itself was prepared decently, its wild flavors partially tamed by the tangy sweetness of berries. However, it remained just that—decent. The accompanying vegetables were standard fare, neither detracting from nor elevating the dish. Across the table, the lamb echoed this sentiment of culinary adequacy; well-cooked but lacking the distinctive touch one yearns for in such establishments.
The children’s menu proved to be a quiet surprise, with a simple macaroni dish that was unexpectedly flavorful. It was a reminder that sometimes, simplicity done right can outshine more elaborate attempts at finesse.
Dessert, however, was the star of the evening. My crème brûlée, infused with subtle notes of lavender, was a delightful dance of creamy texture and crystalline caramelized sugar, each spoonful a testament to what The Loft could achieve. It captured the essence of what the earlier dishes promised but did not quite deliver.
Service throughout was impeccable, with attentiveness and warmth that almost made you forget the food's shortcomings. The atmosphere, with its tasteful rustic elements, offered a cozy retreat from the world below.
In reflection, The Loft stands as a place of potential, brushing against the lines of culinary finesse but not quite crossing them. Despite the high praises sung by others, my experience whispers of a menu that flirts with greatness but settles for the middle ground. There’s room for growth, and one hopes future visits will reveal a kitchen that has blossomed into its full promise. For now, The Loft is a charming venue with dishes that are just "OK," but a dessert worth...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The Loft Restaurant in Blair Atholl, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a charming decor that perfectly complements the beautiful surroundings.
The menu offered a fantastic selection of dishes, showcasing local ingredients with creative flair. I opted for the pan-seared salmon, which was cooked to perfection and accompanied by seasonal vegetables that added a delightful freshness to the plate. My dining companion enjoyed the slow-cooked lamb shank, which was incredibly tender and full of flavor.
The service was impeccable; our server was attentive and knowledgeable, providing great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The wine list was impressive, with a variety of options that paired wonderfully with our dishes.
To top it all off, we indulged in dessert, and I must say the chocolate tart was divine—rich and decadent, it was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal.
Overall, The Loft Restaurant exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting...
