We moved to the beautiful, Scottish Borders two years ago to escape the worst of Boris Johnson’s post Brexit dystopia, not for the dining out opportunities. Those that there are are here in this sparsely populated undiscovered part of Scotland tend to operate very limited hours and the Night Safe, Hawick is no exception. Maybe it’s open Thursday to Saturday but I’m not entirely sure. It’s not easy to book a table. In fact, it’s a bit like passing a mythical challenge. You can’t book on line and the phone probably won’t get answered. Texts may or may not get a responses and this time we only succeeded by being very persistent. But my goodness, is it worth it. The food is beyond superb where Middle Eastern influences meet Albert Roux precision with exquisite presentation and a subtlety of flavours impossible to describe. The chef trained at the Langham in London and I can only assume is after a Michelin star - if they decide to let the judges in that is. .Bill was a very reasonable £180 for three including 3 courses and 2 bottles of decent wine. The service is perfect. If you can’t get in - and I defend their right to run their restaurant how they like with food this good - you can console yourself at their new takeaway outlet in Sandbed, Fire and Salt, opening in a...
Read moreI booked the Nightsafe bistro for a mobile cocktail making session for a special function in October as they were highly recommended from family members. My guests had selected their drinks in advance and were looking forward to it. Despite paying my deposit in advance I was told the day before that they would have to cancel due to staff sickness and my deposit was refunded. They informed me that they weren't able to provide any staff to replace the staff member who was off because their priority was to staff the bistro. I was therefore left to try to make alternative arrangements the day before my function which added a huge amount of unnecessary stress (and additional cost) due to being left short notice. I was also informed over the phone that I would receive a written apology for which I am still yet to receive. Although there were unforeseen circumstances I was extremely disappointed with the poor service and lack of professionalism and do not feel like they are equipped to function as a...
Read moreMy wife and I ate at this exceptional restaurant Sunday 4th July, and we were both blown away with the experience. Front of house was Cameron, a very polite, Conscientious on the money individual who new the Menu very well, explained and advised us on dishes, and from the Bar, he made fabulous cocktails. As an vegetarian diner, I hadn’t been excited when eating out, until the dishes here were placed in front of me. Visually extremely pleasing, and didn’t disappoint to taste. Beautifully presented, and dazzling on the taste buds, from the starter, through to the dessert. We can’t wait to go back, and work our way through the menu. By the way, the steaks are equally exceptional. 10 out of 10 any day...
