Riverbank Cafe: Proper Good Grub in Newton Stewart! Okay, so I popped into the Riverbank Cafe in Newton Stewart, and honestly, it's just a cracking little spot. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and it just feels right? That's this place. We were just after a quick bite for lunch, and it totally hit the spot. I opted for the all day breakfasts, I know, it was lunchtime, but I had missed breakfast that morning…. lol , and seriously, best decision ever. It was a delicious delight and it certainly hit the spot, and then some !! . Washed it down with a latte made from local beans, which was super smooth and exactly what I needed. But honestly, what makes this place shine is the vibe. It's totally chilled, no fuss, and the staff are just lovely. Really friendly, quick with the orders, and always had a smile. It's the kind of place you could just kick back with a coffee, or have a good chinwag with your mates. They seem to have loads on offer too – obviously the full breakfasts, but there was sandwiches, salads, and a mountain of cakes that looked seriously tempting. I spotted some proper chunky steak pies and cheesy onion pasties that I'm absolutely trying next time. Plus, good to see they've got veggie bits and a decent range of cold drinks and specials milkshakes. So yeah, if you're ever in Newton Stewart, you've gotta check out the Riverbank Cafe. It's a proper little gem, serving up tasty food and just a generally great, friendly atmosphere. I'm...

Being a dog owner we regularly use Google reviews to check if dogs are allowed in, especially when we are visiting an area for the first time. We therefore checked The Riverbank out and saw, in the Gemini generated summary as well as several reviews ( one 2 months ago) that it was dog friendly. On turning up earlier today we noted a 'no dogs' sign on the door so I popped upstairs to check....and apparently the answer is 'it depends!', ie whether busy, how they feel on the day. This is completely unhelpful to customers as it either is, or isn't and should be up front about this. If you let dogs in it will appear in your reviews! Anyway your loss and another cafes gain as there are other lovely dog friendly places in the town (Lime Bothy, Belted Galloway) so I'd suggest you take your business elsewhere if...

Mixed bag, this one

Entry: 2 flights of stairs (not for weak legged) it feels like a dentist reception/stairway

Staff: welcomed immediately and seated

Atmosphere: too hot. The ceiling fans were eventually put on, however, the grey haired amongst us were soon ‘too cold’

Service: speedy, with smiles

Food: Nice. Coffee was a bit weak for my taste. Toasted sandwich was over cooked (but that is my level of preference anyway.

Dogs: the door sign says ‘no’. The customers ignored that and brought the soaked dog in anyway.

Was I upset? Nah, I’m a dog owner. However, it begs the question “what if everyone disobeyed that rule” just saying.

There are tables outside. I assume you would go upstairs, grab food/drinks, then carry it all down yourself? Not sure.

All in all, I would...

Lovely upstairs venue by the Riverside. Good parking options, just off the high street and near Sainsbury's and Aldi. Food was lovely, I had the ultimate combo which was tasty, my wife had the quiche which she said was the best she's had, and 2 kids meals. Tea and hot chocolates were good. Desserts excellent! The service was outstanding, super friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to give us a really positive experience from start to finish. And all for very good value. We had arrived late but were welcomed, not hurried, and were able to take chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding (wow!) away with us. Recommended.

I've been a couple of times and it's a really lovely place for a snack, coffee and cake, or a meal. The restaurant is light and airy, the staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly. The food is delicious - it's well-cooked, not greasy, fresh produce, crispy chips, and there's real attention to detail - for example my salad had a gorgeous dressing and slice of fresh orange. I had a vegan burger and it was super tasty. The prices are very fair too - we will definitely be back and I would recommend the Riverbank to anyone.
