This place is surprisingly excellent. Really nice interior with lots of space. Good selection of food and drink on the menu. Food presentation was on point. We opted for the specials. I went for the lobster risotto and my wife got the fish and chips. I really enjoyed my risotto. Really flavoursome. My wife also loved her fish and chips. The tartar sauce came in a shell which was a nice touch. We also had the ciabatta with chorizo and other cured meats for starters which was lovely. For dessert I got the crumble and my wife got the Eton mess. Both of which were great. Although the crumble wasn’t quite as good as my mum’s from the day before. Service was very good, although we did have to wait quite a while for them to take our dessert order. Update We have since been back again. We went on mother’s day so we got the specials. I got the beef and my wife got the chicken. Both of which were great. The meet was tender and delicious. Unfortunately, I thought the Yorkshire pudding was a bit soggy from being drenched in gravy. The potatoes were lovely and crisp, cauliflower cheese was pretty good. I felt the carrots were a bit undercooked as I prefer them a little softer, although I understand this is all subjective. On the side we got pigs in blankets. Our starters and dessert were enjoyable too. We did have to wait a while longer than other guests for our main to arrive but, it is worth noting that a member of staff came and apologised for the delay. We were also unaware that we charged extra for our meal until a member of staff approached and said that she forgot to take the deposit off the bill but she rectified the situation. I think maybe on food alone I would give this joint a 4 but the service is that good that I’ll...

My partner and I visited the Ship Inn this evening. Our seats had to be the worst in the restaurant and I asked to move, the waitress, who was very rude told us that wouldn't be possible, even though there were other seats! I ordered the Monkfish scampi, my partner had the Mac & Cheese. We were left entirely underwhelmed! My monkfish was overcooked and chewy, covered in a hard overly crispy weird batter! My partner's slice of garlic bread was cut incredibly thin on the one side and thick on the other. The bread was like a sponge, overly soaked in a weak garlicky mixture, that resembled vegetable oil! I called the waitress over who apologised and took it away. When she returned she told me I would still have to pay!! I had taken one bite out of the monkfish and eaten one chip! Obviously, I asked to speak to the manager. When he came to the table he told me, and I quote..."Our monkfish is like that" I said, " What chewy and overcooked? " I asked him to look at the slice of garlic bread and to our astonishment he asked " how do you like your garlic bread!!" I said I wouldn't be paying for my meal and he said "ok" and walked away, we never saw him again. We also walked away and will not be back. Horrendous customer service and awful food. The menu is very limited with no choice of healthy alternatives and no salad even in the sides. They don't deserve any stars, but the site won't let me post this review if I...

Went for lunch after the marathon, second year in a row we’ve been here after. Food is delicious. The beef roast was excellent and enjoyed by both having it. The chicken burger was also extremely good. Nobody left hungry. Cocktails were pretty decent and well priced.

Lovely interior. We sat outside in their covered terrace which has retractable glass roofing. This was nice although the seating is less comfortable.

The staff were very friendly and attentive, service was excellent.

So close to a 5/5 but a couple of niggles. We walked in without a booking at their opening time to an empty restaurant. We were told inside was fully booked but we could sit outside. By time we left after lunch, there were still several tables empty we could have sat at. I’d have valued the comfortable seating, particularly after running that day. They also added on £3 to our bill, ?for what, turns out it was for extra gravy, which I take issue with. Instead, give enough gravy with the meal, don’t charge me £3 when I ask for extra, and certainly don’t do so without advising me of the charge. It was taken off before payment without any issue. I’ll again point out that service was...

Our first visit to the Ship in for a birthday meal. The restaurant has been renovated and looks/feels nice. Unfortunately the outside dining area has yet to be completed (has a retractable roof. Would have been good). The staff were all very attentive and keen to offer service. Very friendly. We all ordered different items from the menu, steak pie, steak, macaroni cheese. Everyone loved their food, large portions and well cooked. We stayed for a few drinks, so had a good few hours at the ship inn. Would recommend it, though the only real negative would be the price, obviously they have a renovation to pay for! Though with today's inflation it could just be like everything nowadays and just naturally expensive! 🖖 3/5 (would have been higher if we had the chance to use the outdoor area, as it was one of the only sunny days this spring / summer)
