This Wetherspoons, although conveniently located on the main street through Musselburgh, sadly doesnt have much more going in its favour. I have been on a couple of occasions and both times I have encountered a quite offputting smell from the frontage area. Possibly due to the bins stored just off pavement. The interior design is quite art deco, inspired by the buildings earlier usage and there is a nice seating area with the staircase up to the main toilets. There is also a lift for wheelchair users to access the property which is a nice touch.
The main bar area is a fair sized rectangular room but not big by "Spoons" standards. Apparently ther is a small outdoors area out the back but I did not investigate. My server was polite and prompt, so no waiting at the bar. The group of young adults on the table next toe were having some difficulty getting their meal order correct and seemed to know a couple of staff quite well so had a running debate over everything from their steak to personal matters at an unsociable volume!
The mens bathroom was very nicely decorated, again with art deco styling but non of the stalls were in usable condition due to lack of cleanliness or toilet rolll or simply having no lock on the doors due to lbviously having been kicked in.
Sadly this is the lowest I have rated a Spoons I have visited and there must have been well over 75 accross the country by now. It serves a purpose but it has been a pretty unpleasant experience both times here. The service saved it...
Read moreSo it began with an elegant walk into this upmost posh Wetherspoons. The artwork and information is all on point and truly encaptivated my mind. After a brisk walk we arrived at our seats. Drinks served quickly and meals followed. I had a butter milk chicken burger with extra chicken. The bun resembled what I could only believe was the colour of a demolition site after an l explosion from how black the bun had been cremated. The chicken was nice to the extent of what chicken can be. The person who ate with me got fish and chips and her comments a lot more pleasant she said she thoroughly enjoyed it. Now this is a solid 4 at the moment. But then came the bombshell of a dessert. Not in a good way. My brownie with ice cream. Terrible. Burnt at the bottom, cold. warm at the top. Obviously microwaved too little. The whole brownie was just incomplete. It pushed me down to 3 stars from this. Devastated. Would visit for the mains but desserts are not...
Read moreDecided to try the pub before going to a show across in the Brunton Theatre and I have to say it was a very good choice.
Went into the very large well lit lounge and secured two tables. The lounge was very busy but the staff coped admirably.
We went to the well stocked bar which has plenty of choice beers and spirits. We ordered our burgers and was told that there was a deal on burgers and beer. Again got to say excellent service here.
We went back to our tables and the burgers and beers arrived in a timely manner. The food was surprisingly good for the price.
We happened to meet David the manager who was waiter and he was very charming considering he was so busy. A really nice guy and a credit to Wetherspoons.
The pub was very busy and probably could have done with a few more staff but I have to say our experience was very good and will certainly use the pub again when we visit...
