This is the first negative restaurant review I've written in several years but I have to highlight possibly the worst pizza I have ever had the misfortune to order - think my S1s would do better in Home Ec đŸ˜ȘđŸ˜± 'Artisan' pizza it is not - thick dough, what tasted like tomato puree rather than sauce and a thick layer of cheddar cheese (there may have been mozzarella too but I could only taste the cheddar, which does not belong on a margherita!) Virtually the only veggie thing on the menu... Not cheap either (ÂŁ13.85 so not the most expensive pizza but not good value). The supervisor deducted 10%, yes ÂŁ1.35 even though I'd only eaten 2 slices. Veey little choice of eatery in Kelso on a Monday and this is rated 4th on Trip Advisor and gets 4.5 on Google.. Got a nice chilled cider at least. I walked 20 miles in glorious sunshine so a sad end to the day. Dinner was sandwiches from Lidl.

Very reasonable - nice accommodating servers. Lots of local families. We were on a shore excursion from Southampton and I think we were the only ones from our tour that walked far enough to visit here. Our server was very kind to explain things - I had the Sunday carvery - roast beef and a selection of potato’s Yorkshire pudding vegetables ( including some parsnips which I surprisingly really liked). Our server was cognizant of our time constraints and got us through in a timely manner in spite of us walking in unbooked.

It was our first meal in the scotland and couldn’t have asked better than this! Was early on my reservation but host graciously accommodated us. Decided to visit this place based on previous reviews and main menu having some vegetarian options, to our surprise they had secret vegan menu as well when we arrived which made life tremendously easier 😁. Food was delicious and cooked to perfection, Sticky Toffee Pudding was show stopper! Definitely recommend this hidden gem if you are around this area.

Food is amazing if you don't mind a side dish of attitude from the staff.

My husband and I went for dinner during the week at 19:30, there was a total of 3 tables occupied, so the place was rather empty. We stood at the sign that said "wait here." Waitress behind the counter greeted us by snapping, following conversation took place:- "Table? Yes, please, 2? Yes, please, Booked? No, we haven't. Sorry (Long sigh,) I'll have to see if we have any free? I'll need to clean one. (Followed by another long sigh.)

We stood and waited. The waitress came back, "One in the corner," and painted. My husband and I walked over and sat down. (All occupied tables were togther, this ment it was noisy and not easy to hear one another across the table.) The waitress came back over and handed us menus, "No macaroni." And walked away. We were disappointed as this was what we were planning on having. My husband and I discussed whether we should stay or go as the place wasn't friendly and the attitude of the staff member was awful, at which point another waitress came over and took our drinks order. This waitress was completely different, friendly, and positive. (Nothing was an issue or an "inconvenience.") The young, friendly waitress brought our drinks and took our food order. Food came quickly and was delicious. The chef and the young waitress saved our visit to The Waggon.

I have since tried phoning The Waggon several times over 2 days to raise this issues with our visit, however the phone is never answered therefore I have had to make the issues public.

There are a few places to eat in Kelso and I would think twice about revisiting The Waggon. It is no longer our first choice because of the staff...

AVOID!! Disappointing valentines dinner.

We came here as perviously have dined at the waggon last year, but think it’s changed hands. Really has went down hill. We got the starter valentines platter which was cold, frozen food. It wasn’t even busy in the place either, cold atmosphere and no music, not welcoming by staff either. We then had steak for main, which ended up being medium after asking for medium rare, both came medium. Cheap steak and chips weren’t cooked properly. I’m a chef myself I know it can be hard but this wasn’t acceptable. Didn't even get offered any sauce with steak which I expected for the price I was paying! When getting main meal, the cutlery was slammed down on table and napkins wasn’t with the cutlery. Waitress was very rude and no one offered any more drinks. Didn’t even pay attention on multiple occasions I tried to catch her attention or other staff on duty. We ended up leaving most of the meal. Dessert ended up being tinned fruit in the crumble which also wasn’t great. Service still shocking as when asked for the bill it was given to my girlfriend and also this was slammed. It was like more of an issue being there to the staff. I spent over £60 for this experience. As I say waggon use to be good, has went massively down hill!! Never again. Will not be back for sure. Avoid if you want a...

Been coming here for years, had our first carvery since new owners took over and was dissapointed. Turkey was dry but tasted my partners beef which was excellent. He also enjoyed the cheesy leeks. Roast potatoes werent roast. More like bolied that had been put under a grill to give them their dark colour, not nice. Parsnips in batter were mixed. Some perfect most were hard and i left most of them, obviously not checked in the kitchen. They used to have a good coating of chilli sace over the batter, not this time, just a drizzle. We were never asked if everything was okay with our meal to which i would have pointed out turkey, potatoes and parsnips Yorkies tasted like frozen ones-all too uniformed and tastless. New staff members , one tried to take my plate away while i was still eating! (I was having a drink at the time) Another female was very loud, sings and was running back and forth to kitchen, not professional and not like it used to be. Given prices have increased, what we had was not definitely not worth it and i wouldnt recommend. Thumbs down im...
