When we visit new places we always pick local cafes over franchises like Greggs or Costa, although as vegans we know they have cheap and tasty vegan options (like sausage rolls for £1 and "cheeze & vegan ham" toasties for £3). Because we saw in the window "vegetarian and vegan options" we picked this little cafe for our lunch. We chose the only two vegan sandwiches they had. What a disappointment when they were served: basically two small slices of bread with hummus, a few salad leaves and one slice of red pepper, which they had the bravery to charge £4.75 each. As I said, Costa's vegan cheese & ham toast is £3 and is freaking good. My boyfriend had an iced coffee, which nobody mentioned it'd be made with cow milk (since we got vegan sandwiches they could have asked if normal milk was fine). He didn't say anything only cause we didn't want do be double charged. I'm not sure if they are aware of the competition, but one sure thing is it was extremely disappointing and we won't go back or recommend this place to other vegans on apps like abillionveg. Two slices of bread with hummus as a vegan option in 2020 sound like a joke and we left still hungry. It would have been so much better (and more honest of them) to offer a good salad or avotoasts. I don't like leaving negative reviews and I'm sorry for this one, but I think cafes and restaurants need to realise that nowadays vegans have the same rights to eat decent meals like everyone else (our money is equally appreciated I guess), especially when they get charged £5 for hummus and bread. Hope this review will encourage them to review...
Read moreTerrible experience - not child friendly. We were a party of 5 adults and one 2 year old. We purchased 5 hot drinks and 2 cakes for £18.40. Like many toddlers the little one can be a fussy eater so we brought our own snack for her. When the waitress brought the cakes she seemed to take exception to the fact we hadn’t ordered one for the 2 year old and asked if we definitely didn’t want to order a drink for her. We declined and she departed. Moments later a woman who I assume was the manager storms through and says that it’s not acceptable that the toddler was eating her own food that hadn’t been purchased from them but that she would “let her off this time”. We were all quite shocked that a woman would talk so aggressively about a 2 year old little girl and challenged her pointing out that it seemed a ridiculous stance to take. Her response was “well you wouldn’t go somewhere else and bring your own sandwiches” and stood by this perspective despite us pointing out we were a group of 5 adults and none of us were eating or drinking anything from elsewhere (neither had we brought any sandwiches). Actually, I have been to many restaurants/cafes who have no objection to toddlers eating their own food and have been in the company of friends who have also brought their own food for their toddlers, and never have I ever had anyone come and raise their voice and tell us it was unacceptable. Will never return; the food and drinks were at best average anyway. The party next to us seemed to face no interruption when feeding their dog...
Read moreAbsolutely dreadful place. The girl who owns this cafe is the most unfriendly person I've met. I was told that the next time i ask for a takeaway cup for my coffee, i would be charged. I suffer from severe arthritis in my fingers, so a normal cup is no good for me as it's too heavy, and i can't get my fingers into the handles. I tried to explain this to her to which she replied,"I'll still be chared" Beware, she'll be charging you for dishwasher tablets soon.
Update: I thought I’d go back to the cafe to see if there was any change in the owners attitude “ let bygones be bygones” oh my god was I wrong to do this. She let us go in and order our drinks. Once we finished, she came over and told us not to come back because I put a bad review on this site! Now bearing in mind, she was happy to take our money first. As per first post, it wasn’t the fact that she was putting her prices up, it was the fact that she wanted to charge me more for having a paper cup. My wife and I have been in loads of cafes and never had this problem. One cafe owner did ask why I wanted a paper cup and when I explained the situation with my deformed fingers she apologised and couldn’t do enough for me after that. Never again will I...
