Well what can I say, I never write bad reviews but felt on this occasion I needed to. On entering The Richmond we stood politely need the door waiting for someone to show us were to sit for a party of four. We was greeted (well not greeted pleasantly) by this lady with such a sour face that if she smiled I am sure her face would crack. Pointed to a room as if to say you got a choice and we went to a table we felt suited. While looking at the menus to choose the same lady started scaping a table and 4 chairs which she was moving from one room next to us. I felt this was rather rude as we cudnt hear what each other was saying. It went on as she then decided to swap the chairs with ones with arms so further scraping along the floor. My husband ordered the meals and we waited not very long and we asked for the kids main to come same time as our starters which they did. Food was hot and was OK. My husband and I finished our starter and we waited 30mins for our mains to come. Again the food was hot and the lady who served us was very pleasant. The garlic bread was undercooked and tasteless and the lasagne was hot and average. The kids had ate ther meals before ours had even been served. We waited a while before the plates were taken away ( not that busy because a Wed about 6ish). Then waited a further 20mins when the polite blonde lady said to us" are you waiting on deserts" we replied "yes" she said " she would tell the kitchen" so the girl who took the plates away hadnt told staff in kitchen. We waited a further 20mins on which at this point with the bad service was annoying. I spoke the the sour faced lady with the tattoos on her arms to say will it be much longer as the kids was getting inpatient. Her attitude was not very customer friendly and stank to be honest. She said" another table had been waiting too, also a table of four and they only have a set amount of space in the kitchen to prepare the deserts" no apology, nothing but this sour face and attitude. Shouldn't be in a job if she doesn't like it as it shows in her face. ( sorry but our opinion). There were staff chatting not being assertive and too busy stroking dogs. I found also that we was shown to go in the dog friendly area not very good either when one of our kids are a bit scared of dogs. should be asked this before to see it suits. Lucky enough only 2 dogs came in and wasn't sat too close. We used always go in the Richmond everytime we was leaving Southport but after the very bad experience today and average food will never go in ever again.
Sad really as always been a lovely place all the times we had...
Read moreNot a great experience in all honesty. We decided to try here for my partners birthday meal as we had been in Southport for the day.
We often eat at the Hayfield in ormskirk which is also a Joseph Holt's and have always thought how amazing the food was, unfortunately, that experience doesn't seem to translate to all the pubs in the group.
Don't get me wrong, the food was edible but that's about it. I had a hanging kebab which was pretty bland and consisted of 3 small peices of chicken and a few shards of pepper and onion with a bowl of soggy fries and a brownish salad for £14.
My partners meal was marginally better but still pretty poor and looked thrown together for what I'd consider near restaurant prices it's not really great.
Then tried to add an ice cream onto my son's meal for £1 but was told as I hadn't ordered at the same time as the meal that I'd have to pay £5 for 2 scoops of ice-cream. Wasn't best impressed as we had just dropped the best part of £80 on meals to be squeezed for a bit more on a technicality. Most places would just put it through as a guesture of good will.
We then sat and waited 30 minutes for our desert which never showed and when I chased it up, it turns out said waitress had given it to another table.
What they then threw together was pretty poor in all honesty.
The whole experience put a bit of a downer on my partners birthday meal unfortunately. Probably won't be returning here, but I'd highly recommend other...
Read moreHorrible service, staff careless and no wonder why - because management and chef are same. Specifically - it was a 27th December, my friend's Birthday party which was booked few months in advance. It was the party of 20ish people. Apparently kitchen wasn't ready for it - the waitress announced that some of our dishes we ordered they can't provide as there's not enough products after they took our orders. Orders were mixed and were different as described in menu, again- waitresses were just smirking. Empty glasses and plates we were moving to the side tables ourself as nobody of staff cared about it. Myself in person and my friend sitting next to me had got a plate with chicken tikka and rice on our laps straight of waitress hands and both my starter and main were served at the same time. This mess wasn't cleaned, only biggest parts of messed food taken away so we moved to other seats. And most important thing-Birthday person was served the last, she also is pregnant, she asked for well done steak but got it red. When manager and chef was called out, I never heard any sorry or apologising. This party was disaster experience for my friend who was "celebrating" there her 35th birthday and so to her guests as we didn't feel welcomed to this pub and treated respectfully. Those 30% discount given to bill will never change how we all felt there, how felt Birthday person, how her special...
