Visited the Thatch today, not been for a while, however have been in since new people took over. Last time manager was behind the bar and criticising staff and rolling her eyes in to her head, staff member was so upset that we consoled the young girl! Professional I think not. Today we fancied going out for Sunday lunch, the Thatch is quite local to us so Thatch it is. Oh my goodness where was everyone, never have I seen it so quiet, barely a dozen people in the pub and that includes the staff! We got some drinks and chose to order 2 Sunday Roasts 1 chicken and 1 beef. My husband tucked in not saying anything, my food was cold, I mentioned this to the staff member who apologised and said that he would get me a fresh meal. My husband continued to eat his meal, he did state that it wasn't very nice or hot but he doesn't complain and needed to eat as he is diabetic. My meal was returned to me after quite some time, and in all honesty it was awful, the beef was tough, Yorkshire pudding was soggy, who has stuffing with roast beef? Please don't insult me and tell me it was fresh it had clearly been microwaved! Again staff member asked if everything had been ok, she didn't know what to say when I informed her that I was going home to make some lunch. Now we understand why the Thatch and Thistle is...
Read moreSo, as of Wednesday 24th April we won't be back which is such a shame because it's our local. The food was OK, just. The duck rolls were nuclear and tiny and like something you'd buy as a snack from a supermarket. The burger was dry and bland. The roast chicken was even drier and incredibly over cooked with the tiniest amount of gravy. The sticky toffee pudding was the cheapest tinned rubbish and the custard was cold, albeit the nicest thing of the evening. The atmosphere was lacking from the staff. There were a lot of staff just standing around and not really looking like they had a like to be there. The football was far too loud almost like being there. You couldn't hear the music that had been playing nicely in the background at all whilst we were trying to finish our food. The place seemed busy, so good on them for that if money counts more than customer satisfaction to the new owners. What a shame. I hope it gets better, however we won't be back to know. Below is my previous review.
The food was amazing. The presentation was also amazing. The speed, although it was a Wednesday, was also very quick. The waiter chap was very knowledgeable and polite. The price was very reasonable. I've driven past there thousands of times and now I've been in, I hope to be able to...
Read moreHere as a treat for the kids to see the grinch. Food was served to our table an hour and thirty minutes in to the session whilst we were all waiting in line for a photo with the grinch character. We found out it had been served when we came back to the table and the food was stone cold. No preferences were asked for so beans were all over the plate touching other food. We would have simply asked for no beans if we knew what was coming.
The man behind the bar in his 40s was miserable and didn’t talk. Just took the order. It was a pot of tea which he filled up with cold water. When I took it back to ask him for hot water he snatched it from me and made it again without talking to me.
Didn’t feel welcome from the start. The day did get better with the entertainment but I wouldn’t do this again unless I knew from someone else that they’d sorted the flow of the day out and we’re serving hot food at a prescribed time. It seemed a little too much for them to handle.
The lady who seemed to be an owner was lovely though and was far more welcoming. We only saw and spoke to her...
