Barkers have won any number of awards, which comes as no surprise to anyone who has had the pleasure of eating their produce. Now, your reviewer is biased toward Welsh bread, which is subtly different to the English stuff, but if you have to eat bread in England, this is the place to get it from. (I realise that if you live in Brighton it's a bit of a schlepp, but there's still a good case for it. I've tried the white, wholemeal, granary, fat-free and Mediterranean bread (actually, I've just finished a Mediterranean bap with Marmite, but that's beside the point), and they are all excellent. They make some of the best sausage rolls I've noshed (which is quite a few), droolly doughnuts, Sally Lunns that Sal herself would have been chuffed with, and 'Er Indoors says the egg custards are brill.
