I have visited this pub a number of times, particularly over the last year or so and in general my experience has been great but there has been the odd incident/off putting feeling in association with the bar staff. On one occasion when visiting on a Friday night myself and a family member were approached by the barman and told it was last orders and if we wanted another drink he would be more than happy to oblige. We decided to take him up on his offer due to his seemingly friendly demeanour and thus ordered another round of drinks… we had been seated no more than a couple of minutes and the same individual approached our table and informed us to as he put it ‘sup up.’ We thought this a bit abrupt but chose to ignore the oddity of this and carry on enjoying ourselves but around 5 minutes later we were approached again and told to now ‘get on with it’ in a rather rude and unpleasant manner. We then left the pub immediately feeling rather put out seen as we had payed for a number of drinks during our visit. On a more recent occasion, I encountered a different barman who failed to let the pub know of last orders at the bar. Before entering the pub around 9 ish on a Saturday night I checked the opening times on goggle and it was stated as shutting at 12. Around 10:45 I noticed the two barman start to clean up the bar and collect glasses which I thought rather premature and pressuring to the customers present in the bar (which was sizeable). Around 11:10 I approached the bar and asked one of the Barmen if they were still open to which he replied sarcastically ‘yeah sort of but you can only have water or crisps.’ I feel bad putting on a negative review on this pub as it’s local to me and it has a certain charm about it but I just felt these instances were unneeded and...
Read moreI visited the Raven for the first time recently on one Sunday evening with three friends. It was pretty empty at the time and being a real ale pub, one of my friends who was not familiar with the ales on offer, asked if it would be possible to try a sample of one of them. This was refused by the barman, so she just had to take pot luck. Following this, another member of our group (who had fallen in a pond earlier), dried his shoes and socks on a radiator in the room where we were, where there were literally NO other customers present in the room. The barman told us to remove them. Considering we bought about £35 worth of drinks while we were in there, we found this barman to be rude, arrogant, and about as far from hospitable as it gets. As such, none of us will ever be going in this pub again, and we will be recommending to others that they...
Read moreIn a pub I have previously really enjoyed, tonight we were treated with such hostility that I will never spend my money there again. First, the barmaid came and told us to be quiet, when the group (5) of us were just having a nice time chatting. When next we went up to get a drink, she told us that she would serve us a half and no more after that. We had had 3 (3.8%) pints, all in that pub. We were not drunk or causing any problems. Literally just having a nice time talking to friends. I'm really disgusted at the treatment we experienced. We, obviously, moved on and took our custom elsewhere. Two friends of mine thought that she only came over after I had dared to use the word 'lesbian', therefore we suspect that there was a homophobic element to this. A really, seriously unpleasant experience. And not an experience that you expect...
