Can't recommend the food or drinks yet because when I got to the till to order I was asked to come back in at least 10 minutes because they had a queue of at least 20 hot drinks to make. I was completely understanding and explained we weren't in a rush and asked if we could order a slice of cake in the meantime. I was told no because some of the coffee orders had cakes too. There weren't many cakes left, so I asked if there would be any left/had any in the back if I came back in 10 minutes, at this point the lady just seemed annoyed and like she wanted me to go away, she told me she didn't know and would probably have to restock. I didn't appreciate being dismissed and wasn't happy to come back in 10 minutes because we were sat upstairs and who's to say somebody else's order wouldn't be take before mine and added to the queue! I didn't want to make a fuss so me and my partner decided to leave without ordering because I wasn't impressed with the customer service and didn't want to give them my money at this point! I completely understand that on a sunny Saturday afternoon they are very busy and we would have been more than willing to wait 10-20 minutes for our order if she'd have taken it! You wouldn't be told to come back to order if you went to Costa or Starbucks or even any of the little cafes in the village I live in! Having worked in hospitality in the past I would expect to apologetically be made aware of the wait and given the opportunity to order or not. My partner mentioned he also overheard a few people moaning about the the wait time and orders were being taken to wrong tables. Such a shame because the cakes looked lovely and it's a good stop after a walk around the reservoir, hopefully just caught them...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this restaurant and I had high hopes based on reviews I had read. It was mid afternoon when my friend and I arrived, there is a fair size car park behind the building and judging by the tables outside, it probably gets busy with hikers during the day. There are two floors of seating and we had to go upstairs as the ground floor was pretty full. This was a bit annoying as, havfound a table, you have to go back downstairs to place your order. The menu is pretty straightforward, sandwiches, wraps, etc and a decent selection of cooked mains. I chose the homemade burger. It has bacon and cheese, salad and fat steak chips. I didn't eat the bun as I am not fond of white bread but it looked appetising when served. The burger was disappointing. It felt like a frozen burger and not very beefy. It was served on a slice of beef tomato which was really tasteless and csme with a large portion of red cabbage coleslaw. The chips were delicious. My friend had a bowl of soup an a sandwich which she seemed to enjoy. The dessert counter is downstairs so we didn't bother, as it meant going down to choose and then coming back to the table. There were a lot of middle aged customers and it seems to be a popular lunch spot but whilst it is a very picturesque location, it is off the beaten track and you would need a car to reach it. Overall, I found the order system of find a table and then go back downstairs to order a bit annoying and anyone with mobility issues would struggle...
Read moreCompletely changing my review, since the Schoolrooms have had a thorough makeover. It's a lovely old building in the picturesque little village of Low Bradfield. Entrance is up a driveway, where there is ample parking. There are picnic tables both outside the main entrance overlooking the car park, and also on the other side of the building on the grass overlooking the bridge over the river, and lovely views up to High Bradfield. Inside, everything is freshly and tastefully decorated with painted wooden panelled walls, industrial styling to some of the fittings, rustic wooden table tops. The seating is well cushioned and very comfy, the lighting is warm and inviting. On this visit, the upstairs area had been cordoned off...perhaps to prepare it for the dinner service, so I didn't see it. I didn't use the downstairs wc, but my Mum (has mobility issues) was happy with it. Service was good. The coffees and the rocky road and fruity flapjack (just over £13 in total) we had were absolutely delicious, and there were plenty of cake slices and other temptations in the pastry display to choose from. Another table of guests we chatted with had the sandwich and salad, it sounds a little expensive at £12, but this is no light lunch, it is a beautiful, tasty and generous meal. We might be regulars...
