Incredibly disappointing to say the least. On the good side the skink soup was excellent. The food we did get was well prepared and not too oily. Now for the rant.
We made reservations months ago and selected our Prix fixe menus at that time. We continuously received reminder notices and confirmation notices etc. and though all was arranged and well.
Upon arrival they notified us that the menus we had selected were no longer available (no email about that!), and so we opted for the small plate menu. The menu had few selections and many of them fried. Almost entirely seafood, but we had counted on some meat options as one of our party does not eat fish and the charcuterie board was the only choice.
Our friends had the charcuterie board which was highly unremarkable and not anything I could not have easily put together from my supermarket deli at home, and was supposed to come with soda bread, but there was none and substituted "sour dough" without telling us. The bread was dry basic white bread with little flavor or salt and nothing remotely resembling sourdough.
We also ordered the smoked haddock fritters and the monk fish scampi, only to be informed that the monk fish was now cod. they were both battered and fried and though not oily and delicate, both lacked flavor and only got help from the picalilli sauce.
The servers and service were pedestrian. It seems like they had recently hired anyone available and no one knew anything about the food and could not answer any questions without "let me ask the chef". They served from the wrong side, did not clear before bringing desert and coffee and were ignorant of anything on the menu.
Perhaps if we had gotten the seafood board for 2 the situation might have been better, but we did not expect such poor...everything from such a lauded restaurant.
The cappuccino was very strong but tasted nothing like coffee, and on top of it all the chairs were incredibly uncomfortable and irritated my sciatic nerve enough to last for hours.
I rarely give scathing reviews, but given how much we paid and the poor quality of the experience at just about every level, it is well-deserved. nowhere near what was presented on the "Somebody Feed Phil Show" but that was nowhere near the motivation for our...
Read moreI gave this a pitiable one star rating, because the standard and reasonable expectation for an 80 pound ($102) per person lunch is high. There was only one other couple being served during our meal time. And there were at least two servers, so no one was overwhelmed, to say the least. Yet my scallop was brought to me a little bit above room temperature. The main eye tree was Atlantic card. It was prepared well and the serving size was appropriate. The menu said it would have come with summer vegetables and vermouth sauce. Was disappointing that this delicious fish was bathing in a bowl filled with this vermouth sauce, which to me did not add to the flavor of the fish. I did not want fish soup! And with this menu, you can make no substitutions or changes from what we were told. So buyer beware. We were provided one relatively cheap paper napkin with our place setting. I was rather stunned to get a paper napkin for $100 lunch. And when I asked for another napkin, it took two requests and about five minutes to get one. We’ve never been to Three Chimneys for dinner. To me, this experience is a black eye on the impeccable reputation of Three Chimneys, whose name is on the sign. Most of the Google reviews that I provide our five star. There’s no way I can do...
Read moreDuring our week-long trip to the stunning Isle of Skye, we had the pleasure of dining at The Three Chimneys to celebrate my partner’s 40th birthday, and it truly exceeded all expectations.
The food was nothing short of exceptional. Although we don’t typically indulge in full-course meals, we found ourselves unable to resist the temptation to keep ordering. The highlight was undoubtedly the haggis, neeps, and tatties, which was prepared to perfection and presented beautifully. The cranachan was a delightful finish, balancing sweetness and texture wonderfully. My partner raved about the lamb, declaring it the best he had ever tasted, while the sticky toffee pudding was equally memorable—rich, moist, and utterly indulgent.
The atmosphere added to the experience, with the restaurant situated next to the water and the charming sight of sheep wandering nearby. It created a relaxed and picturesque setting that complemented the meal perfectly.
Moreover, the staff were incredibly warm and attentive, making us feel welcome throughout our visit.
I wholeheartedly recommend The Three Chimneys at Talisker to anyone visiting the Isle of Skye. It’s an experience that will linger in our memories long after the...
