Dining here is dangerous for people with allergies. Avoid. Unfortunately I had a life or death experience on this pub. We were with a party and asked whether a pudding (profiterole) had nuts in them. Their member of staff behind the bar stated they did not. The profiteroles came and did have nuts in them however I had already started eating them. I then asked a member of staff and was directed to another member of staff who said speak to me (in an authoritative manner, making me presume that they were in a managerial role at The Red Lion). This individual told me to scan the QR code which stated that the profiteroles did have hazlenuts in them. I then spoke to staff about this and conveyed the message that this should be a learning curve for staff who should know what food has allergens in, however this was not taking seriously by staff whatsoever who seemed to think that food allergies which can have a detrimental affect to people’s health and life are a joke. Just a word of caution for those eating here in the future

Generally a nice atmospheric pub, however, we pre-booked a table for 7 people on Sunday as we had guests coming over from abroad. At only 7.30pm (!) they ran out of all roasts, yes right: beef, pork, lamb and chicken. The only meat dishes left were two burger options. We ordered more tab water, which never arrived. Half of the dishes were served first while we waited 15 minutes for the other half to arrive, with the food on the table getting cold; although they admitted their mistake and apologised; this is really bad service! That’s not all, when it came to ordering desserts they said they don’t have any cheese or ice cream left, which meant 5 out of 8 dessert dishes on the menu were again not available. After mentioning this to the staff they said it’s because of a garden party going on, but really they should have higher expectations on themselves. This is a basic planning failure! They then also refused to give any discount! Very, very disappointing.

We visited today for a family meal, we were booked in but not greeted at all, had to commandeer a staff member to help us, we stood around waiting. Once seated (moved once) we then had to ask to order our drinks even though there were several staff walking around, we ordered drinks then food, drinks took a long age to come, then food was served 2 meals and then the last meals served one by one (4 in the party) the roasts were luke warm, the portion sizes were small, the food greasy, we fed back to staff that the food was cold to which we were vilified by staff & manager (no reduction in the bill given etc) we were surrounded by screaming children, There were dead birds on the wall (taxidermy) all the deserts had alcohol in them and when I requested it without they didn't think they could help. A waitress tried to serve us a dessert we did not order and was not at all sure what any of the dishes were either. The dessert portion sizes were tiny, but as they were not pleasant this was not so bad except for the £6 per portion cost, the cheese board was bizarre with sweet shortbread??? and not much else. We did not feel like we were valued customers, staff were complaining that they were tired, hot and they had just had a large party to look after. They also interrupted out conversations several times and were not able to listen and help us. We were disappointed with the selection of non alcoholic drinks (1 type of J20 - no coke zero). This place looks nice on the outside since refurbishment but it's all show and no substance, they charge high prices but do not back it up with service or dishes that satisfy. Caring for customers should be central to any good establishment but this was quite clearly absent from their culture and staff need to be completely retrained.

We really wanted to enjoy this place (it was recommended to us but this was when it was under previous management) as it was a family lunch we had been looking forward to for which we had to drive for almost 2 hrs but we really couldn't have a nice time,...

As a burger enthusiast, I have to say the burger at The Red Lion truly stands out as one of the best I've ever tasted! I recently visited this cozy and welcoming pub with some friends, and was immediately drawn to the inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. But the real showstopper was the burger.

The menu offers a variety of delicious options, but I went for their signature burger, aptly named "The Legend". The moment it arrived at our table, I could tell I was in for a treat. The presentation was beautiful, with a golden brioche bun, fresh lettuce and tomato, and a generous helping of melted cheese.

One bite in, and I was blown away by the explosion of flavors! The beef patty was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, with just the right amount of seasoning. The cheese, a rich and savory blend, complemented the patty wonderfully, while the fresh vegetables added a crisp and refreshing contrast. To top it all off, the homemade sauce was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet, tying everything together in a symphony of taste.

The side of hand-cut fries was equally impressive, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were seasoned just right and were the perfect accompaniment to the burger.

The Red Lion has a great selection of drinks as well, and we enjoyed some local craft beers along with our meal. The attentive and knowledgeable staff made sure our glasses were never empty and were more than happy to make recommendations.

If you're looking for a pub with an incredible burger, look no further than The Red Lion. I can't wait to return and try some of their other menu offerings, but I know I'll be hard-pressed to resist ordering "The...

Went for an evening meal at The Red Lion which didn't disappoint! The place has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful, we were given some great recommendations for both the food as well as the Summer cocktails. I decided to forego my usual Aperol Spritz order for the Bumbu rum punch, which was absolutely delicious, I will definitely be having that one again!

The food was fantastic. I'm usually more of a dessert person but was tempted by so many of the starters on the menu, we ended up choosing the chicken skewers and the gnocchi. Both were excellent, but the chicken skewers were particularly amazing and I would go back just for those! For mains, we each chose from the steaks on the specials menu, the rump steak for me following an excellent recommendation from Pedro our waiter, was beyond outstanding. The meat was cooked exactly as I requested and almost melted in the mouth. The peppercorn sauce was also surprisingly good given I tend to avoid sauces in case they take away from the meat. My partner had the sirloin steak, which was also very tasty indeed. We both said they were the best steaks we've had in Cambridge for a long time! Of course, we couldn't avoid dessert after seeing the peach melba knickerbocker glory, not only does it look amazing, it tasted like absolute heaven.

Overall, an excellent experience with delicious food and cocktails, great service and lovely ambience. Not much more we could...
