Booking was simple and made directly with the hotel (as we have dog) over the telephone for one of their âDeluxe Coastal Double Roomâ, including Breakfast. No payment required upon booking - card details are used to guarantee your booking and they operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. ||The Hotel itself was easy to find (just ignore your satnav the last ½ mile and keep going), however there is no dedicated parking with what âfreeâ parking there is at a âpremiumâ throughout Hope Cove and surrounding area. There is a pay and display car park located just next door to the Hope & Anchor which charges around ÂŁ10 per day (booking direct on the RingGo website is the highly recommended way to avoid penalty charges!).||Check in was friendly and comprehensive and we were familiarised to the various aspects available to guests, such as the bar, restaurant, etc. on the way to the room. Service throughout our stay was mainly knowledgeable and staff were welcoming and helpful.||The bedrooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors and there is no lift, therefore, these rooms are not suitable for guests with reduced mobility and there is no air conditioning in rooms. Our room was spacious, clean, nicely furnished, had a super king bed and overlooked the sea and sandy Bay below, whilst the adjoining bathroom was complete with shower, sink and toilet. Normal facilities are available (tea, coffee, milk, bottled water, etc) and there is free (sign-in) Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel that operated, during our stay, at a somewhat weak strength at times (not suited to extensive streaming or heavy downloads/uploads). However, the 'Proper Dog' hamper and items âto take away', as advertised, never materialised. ||The downstairs bar area had comfortably stylish and relaxed, where you could get a full menu meal or snack. The bar had local beers available (but no local ciders) and a small, but comprehensive, wine list, a selection of spirits and some classic cocktails for the more adventurous.||Breakfast was taken in the on the 1st floor restaurant and included pastries, fruit compotes, yogurts, fresh fruit & juices, etc along with a good variety of cooked to order options.||The Hotel room prices are within todayâs middle range of what we would have expected. All in all, an enjoyable getaway and one I would...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights on our trip down to Devon & have to say how great our stay here was. Staff are great, all friendly and approachable and made our stay easy. Breakfast was included in our room rate & it was superb! Plenty of options from the menu from a Full English to Pancakes, also with vegan/vegetarian options too (if youâre into that sort of thing) as well as a continental buffet. We also ate here on one of the evenings and the food was very good, Iâd recommend the pie & mash, it was delicious! Honestly didnât have a bad meal here. Also a very well stocked bar with plenty of drink options. The room was great, we stayed in a coastal double room and it had everything we needed. Bed was comfy, room was cleaned daily, bathroom was nice. The only bad thing would be the room was a little dimly lit but that is if Iâm nitpicking, it wasnât a problem. Unfortunately there was scaffolding up during our stay so it did slightly dampen the view from our room but again wasnât a huge deal. The location is very good with a small beach & harbour literally outside the hotel which are easily accessible. If you can catch the sun set on a good day itâs incredible! There are coastal walks in either direction with one leading to South Milton Sands Beach, which took us about 20 minutes to walk to. Salcombe is only a short drive away also and is well worth a visit if youâre able to. Just around the corner is a restaurant called The Lobster Pod if youâre looking for a unique dining experience. The country lanes to get to the hotel itself also arenât too bad and arenât as narrow as some others so thatâs a plus. There are a small amount of car parking spaces outside the hotel but you may be lucky to get one, if not there is a car park just outside the hotel but be prepared to pay ÂŁ10 per 24 hrs, would be beneficial if guests were discounted on this but again a minor issue. Overall we had a great stay here and would definitely choose Hope & Anchor again. Thanks for...
Read moreWe are at the Hope and Anchor this evening. We arrived half an hour early at 6.45 and were shown to our table, however two of the dishes we had been interested in ordering were already off. The replacement on the specials menu was crab Thermidor which I was happy to order. I was quite surprised when the dish arrived as it was not a Thermidor as I know it, rather it was a dressed crab with a pot of tasty mayonnaise accompanied by chips, bread and side salad. I was actually quite pleased with this, however had I preferred a Thermidor baked in a shell it would have been disappointing! I think they should change the description. Also off the menu were two of the most popular white wines to be sold by the glass, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Picpoul. When asked then if any of the other of our preferred wines could be sold by the glass we were told no, as there was no way to charge for them on the till! Consequently to have any of the wines we liked we had to buy a whole bottle at £36.00. This was explained to us by who we believed to be the more senior of the serving staff as unlike the rest of the team was not wearing a blue striped t-shirt. We chose an English Bachus and when we asked her what it was like she said off-handedly she did not know and the bottle of wine was delivered by her to our table and just plonked in the middle and left for us to open and try. Not the best service. The rest of the team in the blue striped t-shirts however were very polite and attentive. Not sure if I would recommend the...
