We spent four thoroughly enjoyable days at Hope Cove House on honeymoon and genuinely couldn't fault the place. One of the best things in its favour is the location, overlooking one of the three small, sandy coves in the village. It is tidal but that didn't put off some of our fellow guests walking down for a bracing early morning/late afternoon dip in the sea! The hotel has an enormous terrace for dining and drinks that catches the sunshine all day and affords views of some spectacular sunsets over the sea. Though the restaurant is open to the public at lunch, it is just for guests in the evening (though plenty of people walked up to try their luck) and this makes for a relaxed spot to unwind at the end of the day. The food was excellent (the menu changes each night) and service outstanding. Rooms aren't enormous but well furnished and comfortable. Should the weather not be brilliant, there's plenty of space to kick back inside in a large communal lounge/dining room/bar. You're just a five minute walk away from Hope Cove itself, which is a beautiful spot though don't expect too many dining options if staying for longer than a few days. Booking anywhere absolutely necessary during the peak summer season, so be warned! I would fully recommend Hope Cove House and we're already hoping to go back for our first...
Read moreHands down, the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Sure, I've stayed at hotels that have all the frills, spas and long hallways, notably I lived at The Savoy for much of 2013 and have been lucky enough to stay at Barnsley House and The Pig for recent Christmasses, but Hope Cove House hammers home what the core of a great hotel is. It starts with a warm welcome, a sense that you are part of a family- not a guest. You then emerge into one of the most beautiful living and dining rooms I've come across with sweeping views of the cove. The rooms are comfortable and cleverly put together- all that you need and nothing that you don't (you can tell its decent linen). Then comes Hope Cove House's party piece, the food... I'm really into food and I can't remember a time that I looked forward to eating this much. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, it appears as though Nigel Slaters more talented brother is relentlessly cooking for you throughout your stay. I could go on and on about the food, but if you are reading this... don't hesitate to stay here, Infact make it a priority, its a very...
Read moreMy family and I came for lunch. Unfortunately the only good thing were the stunning views. We ordered our food and sat outside to enjoy the sunshine, after 40 minutes my husband popped to check all was okay (as children were getting hungry) and was informed the food was on the way. Then we we were informed that our ticket got “lost” on the way to the kitchen. After waiting well over an hour the food arrived (with no apology for the long wait) My niece received the wrong order... I ordered the cheese ploughman’s and I was really disappointed. On the plate was one thin, toasted and cold piece of bread, one small slice of Stilton and two tiny discs of goats cheese, at £12.50 I thought this was really poor. We asked for more bread but it never arrived. My husband complained about our experience and they were kind enough to refund our bottle of wine, but the staff seemed pretty indifferent which again was disappointing. After reading all the positive reviews hoping we just had bad luck on our visit but wouldn’t return which is a shame as the setting...
