Marco's Trattoria — Restaurant in South Hams

Brilliant - The staff were extremely helpful. We were due to go on NYE but both my partner and me had COVID so had to cancel, they gave us a voucher with the balance of our deposit that we paid which was lovely. We finally managed to go 25.02.23 and it was stunning. The atmosphere was superb and the food was even better. Everything is made freshly that same morning and you can tell!

I can see us going back quite often as it is a fantastic little place.

ONE THING I WILL NOTE (AND TO US, IS NOT A NEGATIVE BUT IS WORTH NOTING) IS THAT THE FOOD IS MADE FRESHLY THAT DAY, WITH THIS IN MIND THEY DO RUN OUT OF CERTAIN MAINS ETC. DEPENDING ON WHICH ONES ARE POPULAR. I ORDERED THE PORK LOIN. HOWEVER, THIS WAS SOLD OUT AND I HAD FISH SKEWERS INSTEAD - I'M GLAD THAT THE PORK WAS OUT OF AS IT WAS LUSH!

My friend (a local) booked a table here for my weekend visit, and I am so glad she did! As someone who is gluten and dairy intolerant it can be difficult to eat out but Marco’s was very accommodating and had a huge range of options for me to choose from! We shared the spicy fries to start and I regretted not having one each. I had the spicy chicken and pineapple pizza and a few extra toppings, and it was delicious! The GF base was one of (if not) the best I’ve had, and the vegan cheese topped it off nicely. Rounded off with some dairy free raspberry icecream, what a perfect meal! My friend had the pepperoni pizza and the chocolate brownie and amaretto cream for dessert and it looked fantastic! Upon arriving the staff are friendly and welcoming. Take your jackets etc. It is only when your sat down that they announce their not licensed to serve alcohol. They said we can go to the shop to get alcohol. Why not tell us at the point of booking. We could of planned our meal a bit better with a bit of forward thinking. The starters were lovely but felt it was a bit pricey for what it was. The main cause came out and for Meatballs and Cabbage with a Tomato sauce for £18 is a very steep price, especially when the sauce was dry, meatballs where undercooked and no flavour. Pizza was soggy in the middle and burnt on the outside. Has so much potential but don’t feel we personally will be going back. £65 for a non alcoholic meal seems pricy for two people.
