Has been taken over (Formerly Riverside Cafe). Much smaller portions than previously and more expensive. When it was the Riverside Cafe you were shown to a table now you have to help yourself, the problem with this is the staff aren't aware how long you've been waiting, so after realising that the lunch menus weren't on the table we had to grab some. I had a Veggie Burger with chips, when it arrived the portion of chips was very small (in a small bowl on the plate) no side salad to be seen, that's what the previous cafƩ did so well, you always got a dressed side salad, my partner had a Jacket potato which was the smallest Jacket potato I've ever seen. The food was nice but there wasn't a lot of it and it lacked the come back factor, the prices are pub prices and as a result of that puts it up against some stiff competition locally. The service was good too. If you have to pay more you expect more, alas you get less but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent into the cafe today and sat down at a table, apparently the system has changed and you need to go up to the counter to order, no-one told us this (last time we were there it was table service). We saw staff continually coming and going and ignoring us, it would have perhaps been helpful form them to say if there was a new system as we must have clearly looked confused. Typically when we got up to leave we caught the eye of a lady behind the counter who asked if we had changed our mind and i told her that we were going elsewhere as we had been waiting a while to be served, she then was clearly irritated with that response and told me to "read the menu"!! I understand it was taken over recently, perhaps there was a sign that we missed but there is never any need for rudeness especially from staff to customers!! Hasten to say we wont...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for brunch and it was very busy but the service was excellent. I ordered the big breakfast which was cooked to perfection, thick bacon, tasty sausages, perfect fried eggs, hash browns were extra crispy and tasty, everything on the plate was delicious, even the baked beans which i dont normally eat and best of all it was hot and stayed hot until i finished it. I also had mocha which was creamy and rich and in a large mug, a really good hot drink. The wife had the ham and cheese croissant which she said was yummy and loved the mix of bechamel and cheddar cheese. Service was quick and ever so friendly. The food and drink was reasonably priced and well worth it for the quality. We sat right next to the rivers edge which lovely. Would be incredible on a hot summers day. We will be back...
