The Red Lion, Holbeach — Restaurant in South Holland

This is the second time we’ve been to the red lion. The first time they totally got our drinks bill wrong and we paid more than what we should have done resulting in a cash refund even though we paid on card. Anyways we thought we would try again as the pub is local and they only Judy opened the first time we went. So tonight after receiving our first drinks my friend got a call whilst we were sat there saying why we hadn’t attended our meal reservation. She said well we are in the pub now. Then 5 minutes later a different number called saying you booked a table of 11 why haven’t you attended. My friend said you have literally just called me and we are In the pub now. The guy that phoned us was sat at the bar phoning us… no apology..and to be honest it was a little bit awkward!!! The deserts were awful. Mushy creme brûlée served with squirty cream. When asked was everything ok with the desserts we were honest and said that but there was no apology and again left awkward. I’m between all of this the 2 female staff were moaning about the table of 11 that didn’t turn up and that they should go home as it’s a waste of time them working their shift. Not something that customers want to hear. There was us a table of 4 another table of 4 and a table of 2. Not exactly busy. The toilet floors were soaked like there was a leak or something. Then once we left there was no thank you..see you again etc..in fact when we left the guy behind the bar yelled that us saying there was still £51:85 left on our bill. Ridiculous!!!! There was a very cold atmosphere. I don’t believe the staff actually wanted to work there that evening. So after trying the red lion twice now it’s unfortunate to say but as locals we will not be attending again and we feel our evening was dampened. What can I say extremely impressed by this venue. Fantastic owner who provides first class customer service and his staff have clearly been instilled with impressive work ethic which amounts to nothing but the best customer service. The chefs do a really great job with the food with succulent flavoured food. My personal favourite was the steak which left me feeling very satisfied. The atmosphere is very welcoming one. I was very impressed by the bouncers who make sure everything runs smoothly. We had a really good conversation and learnt that they work for a security company called HLS. Their professional attitude and caring nature coupled with their expertise in safeguarding customers in the venue make this the number one spot to dine out in holbeach and arguably the best place in the whole of Lincolnshire. I cannot fault this place and would highly recommend anyone to visit this place if they would like a good time. First time visiting the Red lion yesterday evening and definitely won't be out last, it was such a refreshing change to receive a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the settings are perfect, nice fire going, an lovely ambient feeling to the pub. Two cocktails for £10 what a bargain, the bourbon legend is definitely one to try, a perfect blend and well presented. We wasn't planning on eating as we had already been out for lunch but intrigued on what the kitchen had to offer I ordered the Pork belly. Compliments to the chef, could not fault one component on the plate, the pork fell apart, the fat just melted and the crackling was perfect, sage in the mash really complemented the pork.
