Black Dog — Restaurant in South Kesteven

The fish and chips are excellent, served nice and hot and properly cooked. They have more background music than I'd like, but fortunately there is area near the front door that, miraculously, is practically music-free!

The only downside on my latest visit was that the pub was being run by a single member of staff who had to make multiple sandwich deliveries over the road, resulting in many minutes waiting for any service whatsoever at a completely intended bar. Missing loo roll in the toilets and a lack of tomato sauce dispensers were also testament to one poor guy not being able to be on top of everything at once. Not his fault, I think: just what happens when one overloaded individual can't really cope. It wasn't as bad the time before that, though, so maybe special circumstances were at play. And when service was provided, it was unfailingly efficient, courteous and kind.

Went yesterday, and the board outside said food 12-7. We went in about 5pm, the oaf of a barman said the kitchen was shut and that they only did food til 6. I pointed out the time was actually only 5 and he exclaimed that he'd already done 100 meals today and the kitchen was in a state. He was actually a lot ruder than what I've written, how on earth someone with such terrible social skills has a job working with the public is beyond me. Popped in to Grantham today and dropped into The Black Dog for lunch with my daughter. I had burger and fries which were fab, plate was cleared as I wasn't going to be wasting a scrap of it! Daughter who is pretty fussy had hunters chicken (minus the cheese which she doesn't like) and chips, she thoroughly enjoyed it and ate the lot, which makes a massive change for her lol Will definitely be returning next time we are in...
