You'll love this place! Do set off with extra time to spend here before you travel, or call by anyway! Set in a quaint (& still in service) Victorian country railway station on the Norwich to Ely & Cambridge line, this delightful restaurant / cafe is worth a visit even if you're not travelling. It has a pleasant and spacious open area with tables & chairs, but also some seating set away separately arranged as if within old private railway carriage compartments with genuine fittings used as restaurant tables & upholstered seats It has a lovely relaxed and homely feel and is clean and well presented. In my experience the staff are always cheerful, and very helpful. Prices are pretty reasonable/ standard. Just a cuppa before the train arrived today, but we have eaten here several times before and the food is always well presented, portions are good and the food is tasty and fresh. The menu ranges from the usual cooked breakfast , sandwhiches, baked potatoes and soup etc which are quick to eat & dash or if you have time stay on for the full blown restaurant menu with a selection of starters, main courses and desserts. My gluten free requirement was not a problem when ordering lunch in the past with lots of tasty choices. Today I only narrowly fended off temptation from the delicious looking gf lemon and ginger iced sponge cake through lack of time. When faced with an array of gorgeous cakes that coeliac disease robs you of indulging in then it's a real treat to have a 'proper' cake on offer that is in every way an equal to the others on show but is gluten free..( & infinitely preferable to the usual sad offering of the ubiquitous snippet of plastic wrapped factory produced dry gf chocolate brownie -sold at an extortionate price to add insult !). Today's cuppa was served 'to go' as our train was imminent.( I suspect snacks and cakes might have been available to go too for those who need a packed lunch on the train). I gather that Fridays are special for burgers, and that theme nights & private venue bookings are available. The Xmas menu options looked good last year. There are a few dedicated parking spaces immediately in front of the cafe , (plus some disabled parking slots) but if these are in use parking is not a problem as it's a public railway station. You can park for 20 mins free in kerb side spaces adjacent to station , but there is also a large public carpark about 200yds down the laneway beyond the station.(...
Read moreA fantastic experience. We visited this Bistro on the 16th March 2019 and hadn’t got a clue what to expect but where advised to reserve tablets. On entering the car park you see two lots of car park signage one for the pay and display car park and the other for the free bistro parking so make sure you park in the correct parking bays. On entry to the front door we was met by a room with no carpets wooden tables and a lot of train memorabilia around the outside, however as soon as we mention we had reserved a table for a certain time we where taken to another room which was out of this world ( see pictures) . It resembled the inside of an old type first class train carriage right down to the lighting and seats etc. Upon being shown to our table the really nice waitress returned within 5 minutes to take our order and with 20 minutes our brunches where on our table. All ingredients where not packet bought or of budget size, the black pudding we had on our plate was the size of a burger yet you go to a Weatherspoons and it’s wafer thin. It was good to taste locally cooked and sourced ingredients and this was reflected by the way the chef cooked the item and then took the time to plate the order up rather than just slapping it on the plate. Every member of staff we spoke to seemed genuinely happy to help and be at work which is a change from the McDonald’s 24hr minimum wage staff you get down the road. This is a bistro I will definitely be going back to take and time again and would hesitate to recommend to family and...
Read moreWe visited the Station Bistro on SAT 27 SEP 2025. We were a group of four as my wife & I were invited by our Aunt & Uncle. They have been to the Bistro on earlier occasions, so why they recommended it to us. For my wife & I this was our first visit and we loved the restaurant as our table was facing the train platform. The comfy seating made you feel you were sitting on a train in a first class carriage. It was brilliant while sitting down at our table watching the trains come and go.
Excellent menu choice for either mains or smaller meals. All four if us ordered toasted Ciabattas - 2 each of Tuna & Cheese Melt + Brie & Smoked Bacon with Cranberry sauce.
Our waitress was a lovely young lady who's name was "Lily". She was very polite, friendly & professional taking our order. We didn’t have to wait long for Lily to bring us our meals. All our Ciabattas were hot and yummy with a very good side salad + home made coleslaw.
Overalls all four of us had a wonderful lunchtime experience at the "Station Bistro". With the excellent service from Lily and the quality of our meals, we will definitely return again.
Thank you to Lily and all her colleagues & chef for a super yummy lunch. All the very best, and see you again when my wife & I return to Norfolk April 2026.
PS: Lily .... Good luck with your college Fashion studies.
Warm Regards, D&K -...
