The service was superb no rush. I loved that he kept calling me by my name, its little things like that make all the difference. I have never been for a sit down since they changed to Kolkata only ever had a takeaway. Can't believe I've been missing out all this time. Started with poppodoms, then we had the vegetable trio a samosa, pakora and onion bhaji the samosa and pakora have a hint of spice if you dont like anything with any heat in perhaps not for you. They were lush and we asked for more mango chutney and mint sauce. Absolutely no problem and always responded very quickly. Whether it be asking for more drink or sauces. It was farely busy too. They also do the best rose wine its 15.95 a bottle but you expect to pay steep in a restaurant. My sister and I loved it we had 2 bottles! For our main we had chicken pasanda, chicken dupiaza, lamb curry, boiled rice, Bombay potatoes, garlic mushrooms, peshwari nan and garlic nan. And we loved every bit of it my fave was the lamb curry oh and their peshwari nan is to die for. I was stuffed to the brim but still had to have 1 last bit. We had quite a bit left and it was no problem to takeaway what was left. I literally cannot wait for lockdown to be over and hopefully be able to take the girls in my family. The men in our house are not that adventurous with food so they can stay at home and eat boring old beans on toast for all I care. Thoroughly recommend top service fabulous food and drink. Thanks for the best last night before lockdown xxx
Visited again 27/8 table was booked for 6:30 didnt leave until 10:45! Yet again absolutely fabulous night. Ali and his team look after you so well. There is never any rush and they always check when you are ready. They really know how to give excellent customer service. And the food is superb. From now on I'm going to use this as my meet up restaurant because we always have the best of times there. Thank you so much to Ali and all the team. Treasured memories are the most important gift you can...
Read moreNow, i dont want to write a negative review per-say, but i hope Kolkata read this and look into a way to change their website, to avoid anyone else in future being a bit bummed out.
The other day I placed an order online(Kolkata is my favourite Indian in Didcot- food always amazing!). I didnt check the opening hours, which is my fault, but in my head if i could order online through their website then they must be open?
I had a really rough day and decided to have an early dinner given i missed lunch. I placed my online order at 4.20, got an email straight away saying thank you, we'll message with a time soon.
Now nothing in the online ordering- at the top of the menu, or when i clicked order or when i got my confirmation email stated that the restaurant didnt open until 5.30!
I rang them after nearly an hour at 5.10 to ask if they could tell me how long it would be. The man who answered informed me the kitchen didnt even OPEN until 5.30 and i could expect my food after 6!
At 6.15pm my 4.20pm order arrived. I really wish there could have been information somewhere when ordering or that their ordering system wouldnt allow orders before 5.30.
I think, had i known i would have been waiting 2 hours i might have just hit up Mc Donalds :(
Food great, Online...
Read moreMy husband and I often miss the takeaway food options we had in London and are always looking for a great new place to try in the countryside.
Kolkata has immediately become our favourite Indian takeaway in the Oxfordshire/Berkshire area.
Everything we ordered was well seasoned, well cooked and delicious. We especially enjoyed our garlic naan, the chicken tikka masala (it had the perfect tanginess and the chicken tasted very good quality, moist and well cooked on skewers before being added to the rich sauce), and our onion bhaji.
The service was a highlight too - we ordered very early as I am heavily pregnant and wanted spicy food to encourage the baby to make an entrance. We had the vindaloo (definitely the best we have had around here - hot but also really well balanced with other flavours, and included potatoes. I love potatoes in vindaloo! We were actually kindly gifted an even spicier curry by the restaurant manager - very much hoping it does the trick.
Pleased we made the further drive for this curry, it was delicious and we look forward to coming back and eating in as the customer service we recieved just as takeaway customers was...
