We booked weeks in advance for afternoon tea for four, including one gluten free and vegetarian. I remember asking specifically if it was possible to have one of them gluten free AND vegetarian, as I know this can be inconvenient for a cafe to prepare for. I was assured this was absolutely fine. When we were served our food, I realised the gluten free one had sandwiches with meat and fish in. Nobody came to check on us, so I ate the other things and waited for someone to approach our table so I could mention it. After quite some time, nobody had been to ask if everything was ok, so a member of my group went up to say that there was an issue. A member of staff came over and abruptly said, “We’ve got it down as just gluten free.” There was absolutely no acknowledgment of the fact that a member of her team might’ve got it wrong, or any attempt to offer even so much as one replacement sandwich, it was just a case of ‘you’re wrong and we are right and get over it’, so to speak. I was absolutely appalled at this response. I’ve been vegetarian for 30 years and there’s no way I would’ve failed to mention it upon booking. It left a very sour taste and when we realised that one of our group’s scones didn’t have jam and cream, we didn’t see the point in approaching anyone, as we would’ve just got a rude and unhelpful response back. It’s really disappointing, as we work locally and many of our colleagues have spoken highly about this cafe- we certainly won’t be returning and it spoilt what should’ve been a...

Pretty disappointing, the inside was beautiful and the cakes looked amazing however the food and service was insanely poor.

We ordered two burgers and a prawn sandwich, my mother ordered the prawn sandwich and had no idea it would be spicy as it wasn't stated (she hates spice) and the burgers + wedges were plated completely different portions. One had 3 wedges which were under cooked, a burger with a wet near mushy bottom bun and the tiniest bit of salad compared to the other plate with a much MUCH more normal portion size.

On top of that there were 3 flies which after batting them away for 30 minutes one flew into one of our drinks and a waiter after I told them said "we've got an issue with flies at the minute can't get rid of them" as well as a waitress who was quite rude, the one who brought our drinks loudly said "you want tap? Instead of bottled?" And didn't even look at us when she was asked for another glass of water as if we were a burden, however the waitress who brought our food was lovely though we had to wait 20 minutes and stand up to find a waiter to get out food ordered as everyone else walked past out table

Spent 50 pound with my family and we were all pretty disappointed.

Elderflower tonic was nice and the burgers meat was...

Well what a complete let down. Visited this morning and ordered the Mill Cafe English Breakfast x2 and one small breakfast for my grandchild what we received 3 uncooked breakfasts. The sausages were raw and luke warm, microwaved bacon and the fried egg yolk was cold and snotty. Food poisoning at its best. On informing the waitress that the sausages were white in appearance and cold, she informed me I must ask the chef for a “well done breakfast” in future I politely informed her that a cooked would suffice. She knocked the two breakfast off the bill but said my grandson had ate his sausage I replied I took it off his plate and put it on mine. If I am not prepared to eat raw meat I certainly wouldn’t let my 4yo grandchild. She informed me he had eaten his egg but I said that’s debatable as there was only a slight bite taken so overall it cost £16.50 for two lattes a hot chocolate and a Diet Coke with a side of food poisoning. The breakfast was disappointing but not as disappointing as the customer service I received after. Insisting they usher me into a small room to discuss with them. I only wanted to say the breakfast was undercooked but there I was intimidated. Sadly as I live local but I...

Me and the hubby enjoyed this month's themed night. Seafood on the menu and a good choice for both the starters and the mains. I ejlbjoyed the Thai fishcake with sweet chili dip and mixed leaves whilst the hubby opted for crispy prawns on a bed of tomato brushetta. Mains for his nibs was a huge chunk of steamed cod on a bed of linguine and curried mussels. I had the sea bass with fondant potato's with seaweed and a tomato compote. Desert was a trio of deserts which included a passion fruit cheesecake, a macaroon and a chocolate pot...beautifully serves and a plate of cheese and biscuits. My only criticism 6 crackers wasn't enough for the generous portions of cheese. Washed down with a lovely malbec and rhe evening completed with a couple of coffee's. A beautiful venue amazing staff and all set in the tranquil grounds of the hospice. An absolute gem to visit.

Good but not great! The problem is I have had several glowing recommendations and went with such high expectations. The staff were lovely in general, and the full English breakfast was pretty good, although the toast already came buttered so was quite soggy, the egg was undercooked, the sausage was only cooked on one side, and a lot of the food was piled on top of each other. It was tasty though! Geez, I sound picky don't I!? BUT, we weren't offered any sugar or sweetener with our teas, any sauces with our food and then had to ask twice and wait over 20mins for our bill. All amounted to an ok experience, and wouldn't have been as chilled about it if I hadn't received the 'Eat Out' 50% discount. I would still like to try maybe afternoon tea and see if I can be wowed, like my friends have been.

Spent a lovely few hours at this cafe, it was nice and cool inside which was nice after being in the hot sun! Staff were very welcoming, smiley and thoughtful asking if we had any dietary requirements. We had the afternoon tea at ÂŁ15 per person (that i prebooked last week) with a selection of finger sandwiches, favourites were the egg & cress and the salmon & cream cheese. Dessert was a homemade scone with clotted cream & raspberry vanilla jam (which you can buy in the shop next door) and was absolutely delightful. We also had a mini lemon meringue pie, strawberry mousse and a tiny chocolate mousse. Very delicious! You can buy cakes and bakes to take home and knowing that we were supporting St Catherines Hospice was really worthwhile.
