In order to entice more custom the restaurant have started upstairs tapas (no need to book) on weekdays. My review reflects on this experience only as I have posted 5 star reviews on our previous dining experiences in the main restaurant. Simply put, tonight was pretty crap. We arrived 6.30pm (Thursday) and were the only ones upstairs. The choice of tapas was minimal. Five choices in all with one of those being bread and olives. We only stayed because the waitress informed us (after checking) that we could order side dishes in addition to the limited tapas choice. However, the quality of the food was poor on most counts. The onion rings (tapas) were large portions of thick batter, the mashed potato side dish was small and overpriced and the jalapeno (tapas) was mostly batter. Three tiny chicken wings(tapas) was not memorable. I wasn't impressed when the waitress informed us that the "chef" (I use those words lightly) provided the side dishes as a "one off". It was very quiet in the main restaurant so one would have thought the extra revenue from the side dishes would be most welcome. We are regulars here and will continue to be so. Read moreWe visited the Bay Tree Restaurant on Friday 24 July 2020, we did not have a starter but went straight for the main courses. When ordering the food I specifically pointed out to the waitress that I was allergic to cheese, she made a note of this but when the food was put on our table there was cheese on the vegetables. Obviously the kitchen staff did not look on the order for any allergies that customers may have. I could see that there was cheese on the vegetables and asked for them to be replaced but what if someone had an allergy to other foods would the kitchen staff pick it up, I fear not so if you visit the Bay Tree double check or even triple check it could be your life or health on the line. As for the food its self we...
Read moreFirst time in the Bay tree and it didn’t disappoint. Sharon gave a warm welcome into a cosy, comfy atmosphere. I had the chicken pate, it was the first time I have tried chicken pate and it was absolutely beautiful. I will continue to try this again. For my main it was the beef wellington, again never had this before and it was absolutely gorgeous, I did think the sauce was sweet on its own but with the rest of the food it really compliments the whole meal. Then finally I had the crème brûlée and it was better then Miller and Carter. So much lighter and so was the treacle pudding. Service was always spot on and nothing was out of their way. Thank you Bay Tree for helping making memories for me and my partner. We will be coming...
