Cock Crow Inn — Restaurant in South Tyneside

6.8.23 This place used to be our first choice of places to go locally. In fact I used to recommend it to family and friends.

Unfortunately after our most recent experience I doubt we'll be back

Long story short My meal was OK.. Fish and chips However my husband had a meal day special of Kurma with rice, poppadom and naan bread supposedly with a choice of drinks That was the first pain.. They didn't have coors.. Only served shiraz.. Didn't have Stella or fosters Ended up with diet pepsi

The meal was worse.. His curry looked OK but the poppadom was soft and the rice was so overcooked you could have used it to paste the walls.

Twice the waitress took his meal back.. Twice she brought the exact same plate of food back, the second time she even smirked whilst she headed back to the kitchen.. Really classy move by Emma The next time the manager came over.. So we thought.. Naively he'd get it sorted. He came back with the same plate of food... Again.

So when we called him back for a fourth time of seeing someone. We explained the curry had rice in it from the last time so obviously wasn't fresh at all.. The rice was just the same.. Mush.

This time we asked him to replace the rice with chips and a fresh curry.

Which he did... He apologised, He also gave my husband his money back.. Too little too late though, he only ate the chips and naan bread.

Unfortunately by that stage I was half way through my meal and our time together had ben ruined by the whole experience.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, the menu looked fantastic. But we were SO disappointed. We were told the food would take an hour, fair enough as it was quite busy. So we waited. In this time, our table was right next to the door that leads out to the play area. Every 5 minutes someone (either a kid or someone going for a smoke) would walk out the door and not shut it behind it, freezing the rest of us sat near the door. The table next to us received their food close to an hour after ordering and one received the wrong thing. He mentioned this to the waitress who just laughed and stood there. Out of shear awkwardness, he said he would still eat it, to which she replied ‘ah ok, good’ and bounced away. We were in shock, to be treat so poorly and to not even offer the get him the correct item or even refund the item.

Then our food came, closer to 1hr15mins later. I got a pepperoni pizza (which looked fantastic) but there was no taste, the base was underdone and gluey, the cheese and pepperoni had no taste at all. My partner got a burger and halloumi fries- all of which had no taste! In this time for waiting for our food, I went up to get 2 more drinks- 2 pint Pepzi Max at the grand total of £7.50.

The staff seemed completely uninterested in their jobs and it totally ruined the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, would never come back. Absolute disappointment...

Very disappointed. Been here before and usually the food is nice . Ordered hunters chicken which was described as being smothered in BBQ sauce, with cheese and bacon. Large portion of chicken but no sign of cheese and definitely no BBQ sauce so went to the bar to ask if it could be replaced. Brought my original meal back within minutes with BBQ sauce squirted across the chicken obviously from a bottle (it’s supposed to be cooked WITH the BBQ sauce , cheese and bacon on the top of the chicken). I wasn’t impressed and then I pulled a hair from my mouth whilst eating it. I asked to speak to a manager but the young girl didn’t bother and just asked me what was wrong with the food. I told her exactly what was wrong with it and asked for my money back . She went away and spoke to the chef who said that was the way hunters chicken is cooked and also commented that she found it hard to believe I’d found a hair cos the chef was bald . Not happy at all with the customer service . Usually polite to ask customers if they enjoy the food but they just put the food down on the table and walked away . I did get my money back but don’t think I’ll be going back after being treated...
