Burga — Restaurant in Southampton

I am sat at a dining table in a candle-lit room and before me stand two small boxes; one red-striped and cuboidal; the other fiercely decorated in blue and orange splatters, and trapezoidal. Upon the unveiling of the contents of the first box, branded “KFC”, pieces greasy and peppery particulate matter fester themselves within my nostrils. There is no compliant emotion that I can associate with the experience. Beneath me lie eight beige chicken wings, it is a dismal graveyard coated in batter. But the opening of the second box is wholly different. As the steam rises I am caught up in a cloud of sensuous joy, momentarily liberated from all sadness and fear that so often seem to populate my mind; fluttering around like moths in a light. Looking down provides an explosive visual phenomenon; spring onions and chilies of tantalizing red and green appear as though fireworks across a night sky upon the chocolate brown wings beneath. If KFC is a dismal graveyard, these wings are the ‘Day of the Dead’ festival. I first try a beige wing, and its flavor is as bland as its color; each bite a further reminder of the futility of existence. Then I try the second wing and all pessimisms that I had previously felt vanish, meaning in life has been restored. It is as though I was trapped in a relentless purgatory and suddenly whisked into the heavens, each bite is better than the last, wonderfully flavorsome and succulent. While it may be an act of gross indulgence, I am powerless to do anything but submit to the culinary ecstasy. Soon I have finished the wings and my appetite is sated. AVOID! Ordered through Uber Eats at approx 7pm. Due to arrive at 8.05pm however it got to 9pm and order had not been received. Rang and the woman who answered couldn’t find order. Once she did she said she spoke to driver and he was coming down our road.

After 20mins cleary the driver wasn’t on our road. Rang back and spoke to manager who couldn’t find our order and read out all other orders. Finally found ours and he said the driver has said he had delivered it. Told him we hadn’t and even on app it still said on its way. Manager said he would send it out straight away. Told him we don’t want order now as it has been 2.30hrs since we ordered, but manager said he wouldn’t do refund and would send order out.

Got to 10pm and order still wasn’t with us, the manager said it was on its way and that the reason it didn’t arrive earlier is because it was delivered to a road with same name but different area as didn’t have post code. Told him there isn’t another place within Hampshire with same road name so clearly isn’t true and if didn’t have postcode why didn’t contact. Manager said they were too busy. Then accepted it was their fault when caught out and agreed over 3hrs isn’t good enough but still wouldn’t give refund himself and said should he through uber eats. Asked how to do this and he said “don’t know”. Food then arrived 10:15pm - over 3hrs after ordered. So was lied to numerous times, lots of excuses and no refund. Won’t be ordering from here againa and would advise anyone...

I visited Burga on Thursday 4 May 2023 in the early evening, a weekday during term time. I was with three other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place.

I parked in the street nearby - parking was easy.

The restaurant comprises of one small dining area with about 8-10 tables - it's more of a takeaway but with the option to eat in. The restaurant was bright, colourfully decorated and clean.

The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected really speedily and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I enjoyed The Stack burger with bacon and cheese fries and a salted caramel milkshake. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was very good value for money, I paid just £18 and left very full up!
