After a busy morning of exploring St Albans , we made our way to George Street Canteen for a much-needed lunch break – and it didn’t disappoint! This cosy little gem serves up a fantastic menu with something for everyone. Whether you’re craving something hearty or light, you’ll find plenty of options to choose from.
We decided to try the avocado and halloumi wrap, which was fresh, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. For those who prefer a classic, their traditional English breakfast featuring locally sourced meats from Goddard’s is a real treat.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and a relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. And the highlight? The sweet potato fries! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely bursting with flavour – they’re an absolute must-try.
Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee, a quick bite, or a leisurely lunch, George Street Canteen hits the mark. It’s a perfect spot to refuel and recharge, with food that’s fresh, tasty, and thoughtfully prepared. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re...
Read moreGorgeous cafe hidden away in St Albans.
We've been here a few times, only when it has been sunny and warm and have sat outside, so not sure what it will be like when it's cold and wet.
The food is very tasty but our last experience was a bit hit and miss. There was no more sourdough bread so some of the menu items were not available. I had hashbrowns with poached eggs and avocado, which was delicious. The hash browns are small crispy balls, perfect with the eggs. My partner wanted a full English breakfast which came with sour dough, he a) asked if he could have hash browns instead of sour dough, but was told 'no'; and b) if the the price could be reduced because of the missing items, he was again told 'no'. This is not very customer-friendly and the fact that there are at least two big-name food shops within walking distance where alternatives could have been purchased appeared to have...
Read moreThis place is insanely overrated. I don't know what's wrong with people in St Albans... this place is extremely cramped, with chairs and tables basically clashing. There is no life in the ambience, nor decor, and the food is VERY average - there was no flavour at all in the cakes and the breakfast was hardly worth shouting about. It was also massively overpriced.
The staff were friendly and that's about the only reason I'd give two stars instead of one. I wouldn't go back if you paid me to.
Anyone rating this with more than two stars clearly has no idea what the hell they're talking about.
The bacon was terrible, the mushrooms were overcooked, the egg was overcooked, the sausage was off the supermarket shelf and I have nothing good to say about the...
