Rating has gone from a 5 plus to 2 in a matter of minutes. Excellent food and service from previous experiences efficient service and recommended to friends and family faultless. Friendly and switched on landlady. This is a great pub and lots of time and effort has been given to it's appearance with a fabulous garden, locally sourced produce for the food. After our recent visit service was faultless. Within an hour we revisited to grab dessert sadly it was shocking. An inconsiderate customer / member of staff was using foul language at the bar and the culprit was hiding behind the pillar to the extent something was said if it made us as adults uncomfortable it was not pleasant for our 14 year old. The waitress who was witnessing this said nothing for him to quieten down and another member of staff said it was someone outside insulting our intelligence! Later for us to hear the same member of staff ask if we had left yet to the said culprit making us feel even more uncomfortable! Sad to have to post such a positive and more importantly a negative comment on the same visit on what we rated as an exceptional pub is disappointing! We would hope this was a one off but it definitely made us...
Read moreI moved from harpenden about 13 hrs ago. Back them it was known as the oak tree. A small pub which was very dull and boring. Recently it has been totally rebranded, they have done an amazing refurb top to bottom. The inside was welcoming and full of modern charm but somehow still keeping the character of an old building. Service was quick and polite. Beer tasted spot on which is always good. We then went out to the garden, it was a real unexpected gem. It was by far the best pub garden I've come across. It was romantic for couples or cosy for groups. Loads of little lights surrounding each individual little area just far enough apart for privacy. This pub is just off the high street so many may not realise it's there. But I would thoroughly recommend the extra 2 mins walk you wont be...
Read moreWe’ve been here a few times for drinks and home made cakes, but decided to try the sunday lunch last weekend and were very impressed. We were a large group of 15 so had to pre-order food. Plenty of options for vegetarians and meat eaters - particularly recommended the pork belly, roast chicken, waygu burgers, vege burgers, veg lasagne and vege roast. The vegetables served on the side were plentiful, varied and well cooked. Service was prompt and attentive despite the large group of us. Also worth mentioning the decor which is worth a visit in itself. The garden looks great with plenty of seating areas - although too cold and wet to use it on this occasion. All in all a great experience and very pleased we brought our guests here - we...
