The Ridgeway Fish Bar — Restaurant in St Albans

Went there for the first time on 5th October 2024 for a cod and chips for supper. It seems a popular place, so there was a delay on getting served but that is par for the course at a chippy in my experience. I thought the place looked immaculate, and I particulately liked the flooring (just a personal thing I suppose). The staff seem to know what they were doing and obviously had a workable system up and running that seemed really efficient. I was served by a friendly woman and got my order promptly but I expect that's because I wanted a single portion of medium cod and chips with curry sauce. (Obviously larger orders would likely take longer.) The batter was the best I've tasted in long time and the size of the 'medium' cod generous. Can recommend the curry sauce too. The 'medium' portion of chips was more than I could manage and they were good. All in all a great experience. Though I don't eat fish and chips that often I will certainly go there again - and maybe next time take advantage of phoning my order in beforehand - another service they offer - to do away with the wait time. There was a very good range of choices offered on the clear and easy to read menu boards, and of course plenty of free parking nearby in the quadrant....

Ive just been down there to grab some food after a long day. This is the second time I’ve been there on a Saturday late in the day but they are open till 9.00pm supposedly The previous time probably three weeks ago at 8.45 they had run out of chips. Tonight at 8.45 they weren’t taking any more orders!!! 9.00pm should mean 9.00pm. Saddened that having spent substantial amount there they don’t need the custom don’t go the extra bit to enhance their reputation..... I worked in one as a kid of 15 never turned people away in opening hours it was drummed into me by Ray and Millie that we needed custom maybe not these days even with COVID devastating everything retail if not Amazon are going to take over. Very sorry to say they will never get custom from me years to build a reputation minutes to destroy it!!!! Check out Ashrigde business school guys sorry no third time lucky for you guys Chinese Indian kebab shops you all need business and income but no more for this place......sad end to a decent fish bar but there’s other options and choices Very sad but let’s see how long you can treat...

The Ridge way fish bar is, not just in my opinion an that of my family, but all the people we know that use this shop, its absolutely amazing.

The dedication and passion in which the food is not just cooked, but also the dedication that goes into the procurement of the ingreients, which are always fresh an goo quality which evidently shows in the quality of the food.

Dan the owner is very passionate and experienced chef, which clearly shows in the warm reception he gives every customer that enters the shop, genuinely happy and passionate about what he does, the food is amazing, the warm and welcome feeling,customer service, ticks all the boxes.

Well done Dan for your dedication and hard work in running a true gem in st albans.
