Overall very poor. Went in on Sunday, when the markets were on,fairly early and was only handful of people in. ordered a coffee and a tea. Female member of staff, while at the coffee machine, continued to chat to male member of staff, and laughing and looking at stuff on his fone. Eventually Coffee was plonked on bar, followed by tea pot and milk. I asked for sum sugar, she pointed to a stand by the bar, I picked up the sugar, I then asked for a tray, as we would sit outside she pointed in other direction, I picked up the tray, piled everything on it and he took it outside. Paid and asked for some paper towels as the tables under umbrella were wet. She again pointed to tiny serviettes. Unaware that my hubby had already gave her a 2.50p cash tip till I got outside. We were spending under £6 for our drinks, so quite fair on price, if it was hot! . Did not deserve a penny of that tip, rude, unhelpful and lazy. Ashtrays still full on tables. Tables not wiped, chairs all over the place, guessing from night before. with the 5/6 Members of staff I seen all chatting and doing nothing, you would think that they'd send someone outside to tidy up and wipe the rain water off the tables, knowing there was markets on, and would be busy. But no. If I could give them 0 stars I would Service - dreadful. Coffee - Luke warm. Friendliness - none Appearance of pub - grim It's a good job I took some serviettes as was only given 1 spoon, and certainly wasn't going back in for another. Quickly drank our...
Read moreCame in for a Sunday dinner yesterday and from the moment we walked into The Pied Bull, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The warmth and attentiveness of the staff set the tone for what turned out to be an absolutely wonderful dining experience. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, well looked after, and never left wanting for anything.
The food was nothing short of outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly crafted with care and top-quality ingredients. Whether it was a hearty main or a delicate dessert, everything was cooked to perfection. The menu offered a great balance of classic favourites and creative seasonal specials, making it difficult to choose – in the best way possible!
Special mention must go to the service – genuinely some of the best we’ve experienced. Friendly, professional, and genuinely passionate about what they do, the team truly elevate the experience. They struck the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive, and their knowledge of both the menu and drink selections was impressive.
The Pied Bull is a rare gem that combines atmosphere, cuisine, and hospitality effortlessly. We left already planning our next visit. Highly recommended to anyone who values excellent food served by people...
Read moreSome hotels appear a little tired but the Pied Bull is totally exhausted. I stayed one night, the room was basically clean but overdue for decoration by about 20 years. Carpet (contract) stained but bed linen clean. I came back to my room very late, probably 3 am and there were some chaps in the next room a having a conversation. They were not loud but I could have jopined in the chat from my bed, such was the lack of sound insulation. Breakfast was a bit of a giggle too. Went down to the restaurant of the worn out leather chairs and noted that someone had already eaten on another table. Three members of staff walked past this repeatedly but ignored the soiled crockery etc. Full English offered and this arrived after about fifteen minutes. I suspect that the delay was caused by the amount of time the chef had judged an egg to completely vulcanise. Bacon dried out, tomates almost burnt and the mushrooms were obviously an old friend. Toast on the side (thank God not via some conyeor belt) but had to ask for butter. Coffee in a jug but no milk on the table. No evidence of teaspoons at all. Staff were all very friendly but some confusion reigned between them. Looking at the site I would expect the Pied Bull to disappear before too long and be replaced with...
