Bearing in mind The Moss Bank Hotel is a lovely public house. I was sure I was going to have a good experience. The food was okay, meaning the starter was, from then on it all went downhill, the Christmas dinner was mediocre, also the pudding was supposed to be chocolate orange cheesecake, there was a slice of chocolate orange but by no means was this anything like a chocolate orange cheesecake I have tasted! The service was horrendous, and the manager was an ignorant person with less intelligence of anyone i have spoken to in all my life! I tried to complain about the service of a young waitress, as she was arguing with me, to which he replied let me finish my tea, then I'll be with you, no not the case, he ended up making me wait so he could clean a table! Needless to say I got nowhere! Young and very inexperienced staff, no concept of working with the public! I appreciate it being a busy time of year but the pub was was almost empty! They would rather look after their family members who were there to eat than actual paying customers! Needless to say I won't recommend this place to anyone! The only good thing about it I was with friends so enjoyed...
Read moreFirst time here for food and it was ok. The lady who was clearing glasses was really helpful but the guy on arrival didn't give us any information so we started chatting and then he came over and told us the kitchens were closing in 10 mins. If he had told us when we first got there we would have ordered then caught up with each other. The food came and looked great and most of it was nice and tasty. Two of us had stilton sauce and I really cannot eat mushrooms but they were all chopped up in the sauce. This was a surprise because most places I've been don't have mushrooms added and it never said they were on the menu. There was another sauce which stated mushrooms so it surprised me that they didn't have it down that they were in this. Unfortunately it meant I was left scrapping it off the steak but the steak was ok, done a little too much but overall taste was good and they had lovely home made chips and onion rings which were lovely. No one cleared our table at all yet they were not busy. These are only little niggles and I would...

A bit of a wait from ordering to food on the table (but it does state in busy times 45 mins is normal) but what we ordered was well worth the wait. Every meal was piping hot & freshly cooked. I had steak & ale pie with mash seasonal veg & a gravy boat it was delicious, the wife had a tower burger and it was a tower it was served with skin on fries. Our son had Fajitas with a side order of salt n pepper chips - I pinched a couple of the chips they were delicious. All portions were more than adequate and food hot which is a massive plus in my eyes. My wife & son had a sweet both said it was delicious a chocolate brownie, hot fudge with ice cream were their choices. The staff were very nice especially birthday girl who was a great hostess.
