I visited The Swan Inn , Stone for the first time on Friday 10 June 2022 after seeing the well deserved entry for the Swan Inn in the Camra Good Beer Guide.
The Swan is a large terraced brick built pub ( Victorian or older ? ) on the one way roadside of Stafford Street. The Swan Inn does not have any parking but I managed to park easily in the nearby Crown Street car park about 100 metres walk away . It is a flat car park and level walk to the walk but it does involve crossing 2 busy roads with the aid of pelican crossings ( they can take ages to change !)
The Swan front doorway leads into the large bar area with large seating space to both sides of the main bar. The passage to the left handside of the bar leads into a small but well organised garden seating area with bar linked to the inside bar .
The bar looks wonderful for the real ale drinker with at least 10 or more real ale handpulls. They seem to have a good variety of brews and I drank a half of the guest dark ale - Ossett Voodoo Chocolate Orange Stout (£1.85 for a half ) . The staff and other customers were friendly and the Swan feels like a relaxing, hospitable place - certainly on sunny Friday early evening . One slight problem is the poor ( non existent WiFi) so I could not post my photos earlier . It is sometimes better not to have this so that you can enjoy the beer and the social atmosphere.
I would recommend The Swan if you are in the area and want to enjoy a relaxed drink of real ale . Congratulations on again winning the local Camra branch Pub of Year this...
Read moreInexplicable service, myself and a few friends (ages 30-50) visited this pub saturday evening, half way through the night one of us went to the bar to order drinks to be told they were not going serve us because 'one of us has been sick in the toilet'. None of us were anywhere near that drunk and none of us had been sick anywhere but they refused to accept this and continued to refuse to serve us. We assume someone had been sick in the toilets but it was not someone from our group. Unable to get a drink we decided to leave, we are all very annoyed about being accused of something we've not done, without no evidence, they could not even pinpoint which one of us it supposedly was, it was clear they just wanted us out.. perhaps we were not local enough. We will not...
Read moreMassive disappointment. Had read the great reviews so was expecting great things. Couldn’t have been worse. We visited on a Tuesday so perhaps we were just served the weekend leftovers, but the two real ales were rubbish- tired, old and flat in seconds. Service ( for us)was appalling too. Barman ignored us and served a regular who arrived at bar after us. I know the score, you have to look after regulars, but at least acknowledge the person who has been waiting. Looks a decent pub with loads on offer but if you serve crap beer with appalling manners, my money ain’t coming your way. We spent 3 nights in Stone and every other place we visited served good beer with a...
