I 1st got introduced to Simmons Bakers as a 5yr old when my Nan used to drag me round Stevenage Town Centre on a Saturday morning visiting literally every shop from Market Place, Queensway (Woolworths was the best because she always bought me a toy car & pick n mix!) The Forum for C & A n BHS.
The best part of that 7 hour day was going to see her friend in Simmons on Queensway which had 2 shops in 1. She'd buy some Chelsea Buns, Belgian Buns & their delicious to die for jam doughnuts then walk across to the other shop to choose a selection of their slices of gateau & cream cakes (I couldn't eat them due to dairy allergy)
It was a shame they closed that store but glad that the High Street store is still going strong! I used to get my breakfast & lunches there when I worked with my Uncle during the 6 weeks holiday.
Now every time I visit Stevenage, I always make sure that before I head back north either by car or on the train as I did last Sunday, I pop in to get a lovely sausage bap, sausage roll, steak & kidney pie & 4 jam doughnuts. Those pies!! Amazing!
The staff always greet you with a friendly hello & a smile & nothing is ever too much for if you want something a little different. Natalie always serves me my goodies & always wishes me a safe journey home which is very kind.
So if you're looking for the best bakers in Stevenage, then look no further than Simmons Bakers in the High Street, you won't regret it & will be hooked liked me 50yrs &...
Read moreI don't usually leave reviews but the hilariously sweet outcome of this made me want to give praise to a certain staff member who I didn't catch the name of. I placed an order through Justeat for a whit breakfast bap (at 2pm, I'm not unstable, you are)to delivered to my work for around 2pm. At 1 pm my phone rings from a mobile number I don't recognise, I'm thinking it's the delivery driver and he's early. Nope. I was greeted by the voice of a woman asking for me by name who works at Simmons.
She informed me that she's received my order but when she checked, they'd run out of white baps! Not the end of the world I told her. Before I could even ask what else there was she asked if I wanted the breakfast baguette which I have to say was a nice upgrade! That was more than enough. I appreciated the phone call to let me know let alone the upgrade but it got better. When I was thanking her for the heads up she added yet another upgrade, asking if I'd like her to throw in a ginger bread man as a way of apology. I laughed it off and was ready to tell her it really wasn't necessary since she'd already done enough and because I can't remember the last time I ate one but I said sure why not and sure enough there was a ginger fella in my bag. Not just a 5 star review for Simmons but if this review sounds familiar amongst the staff members of the old town branch or to their head office I'd greatly appreciate if the positive feedback could...
Read moreVisited today as ive visited other stores and been happy with service, however today I visited this one in old town Stevenage. The member of staff(sophie according to the receipt) was far from happy to be at work, I asked her which of the very limited choices of bagutte did not have mustard in to which she pointed at a coronation chicken one, I asked for it to take away to which she replied "thats all we do today theres no choice" in quite a blunt manner, I then asked for a savoury pastry as well to which she just huffed at my request. When it came to paying she wasn't overly pleased I was paying in cash and asking for a receipt. Safe to say if I visit again if shes behind the counter I will...
