Been contemplating this place for ages and saw some hit and miss reviews but checked recently and the reviews had gotten a lot better. Some saying better than chicken George. So decided to take the jump and order one. Used a delivery service and took a good 45-50 mins to delivery which was what they said it would be. The delivery driver kinda threw it at me in a plastic bag and it was all wet and all over the place. Wasnāt packed very nice at all really and burger wasnāt fully wrapped up in foil. Couldāve been the delivery service and not the owners fault. Once unpacked it was soaked in grease. Especially the bag of fries. Upon first inspection the coating on the wings and chicken burger looked very dark and almost burnt but it didnāt taste burnt. The fries where probably some of the best fries Iāve ever had and the burger was massive. The taste of the burger was really good, it was rather sloppy to eat but still nice and the piece of chicken in the burger was huge. Now the wings were awful. I chose the garlic Parmesan ones and there was naff all cheese and it was more just like a garlicky butter poured onto it. They were chewy and fatty, i am more of a flat wing fan myself though. And I noticed the colour of the bone on the wings where dark so I know that the wings had been previously frozen and defrosted. Not that thatās a big issue but I can tell when eating a previously frozen chicken really affects the flavour and texture of chicken. I donāt think i will order them again tbh and maybe just go for the strips/tenders. And the other thing I would mention is the pictures they use to promote their business on social media look nothing like what you receive. I did think anyways before ordering the pictures looked a bit generic and used from online I believe. I would return but I feel...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHmm.. what can I say, looks can be very deceiving. From a small car park in a local pub, the small food truck sits inconspicuously and somewhat hard to find unless you know where it is; thatās great because this place should be kept secret.. itās a hidden gem!
Marlon, the owner and cook that night was great, I always try to support small business wherever I can and you could see this chap was passionate about his business and chicken. This was our first visit and Marlon made some suggestions based on my taste. A mate who came with me is a greedy pig so he indulged in a meal and an additional chicken burger.
We got Honey Honey Wings & the Teriyaki Wings. I could honestly say the Teriyaki was one of the best wings I have ever had. It beats most of the London joints and is comparable to the ones I have in Texas, the spiritual home of BBQ.
The menu is extensive, plenty of choice and all at a responsible price. The pub where the van is situated allows you to take the food in to eat. Itās a lovely local; when we went, it was quiet and the drinks are reasonable.
Drove about 20 minutes to get there and 100% worth it. Unlike some of the other new āchicken jointsā Marlon has kept it real and it isnāt pretentious or overpriced.
The chicken was well cooked, chips great and burger was filling.
Canāt recommend this chap enough but worried after seeing this review, more people will come and Iāll have to queue up! Selfish of me because this guy deserves all the success...
Read moreThis was my first time eating from here, and I don't plan on it being my last. We decided on a sharing meal, which included 2 burgers, 12 wings, 2 portions of chips and 2 cans of drink for £27.50. The quality of the food is amazing! My chicken burger was juicy and flavoursome, the chips were some of the best I have had in a longtime, and the portion size actually meant I ended up not finishing it all. After speaking to the staff and finding out they use only fresh, not frozen produce, this does show in the food they serve. The food truck is clean, the staff were helpful in assisting with our food choice, flavours and spice levels. I would personally say this place gives Chicken George a run for its money, and will be back again...
