The menu changes regularly, however there wasnāt one on our table when we arrived, but was one on the door as you enter so we picked from that. The place was really busy so we queued for a while and when it was my turn to order I was advised the menu had changed so what I wanted wasnāt available - unfortunately theyād not taken down the out of date menu yet and replaced it. As there was a large queue of people behind me I quickly chose something from the specials board but unfortunately it was sold out, I didnāt want to delay the queue any longer so I went back to my table after being provided with a new menu, so had to queue twice in the end.
The āoptionalā service charge was automatically added to the bill and I feel is a bit unfair for a few reasons -
You order and pay at the counter before even eating, so youāre paying a service charge for service youāve not even really received yet.
I got my own drink from the fridge and queued at the counter myself to pay. Someone brought the food to the table but I do not feel that warrants a 10% service charge being added on.
The service charge is āoptionalā but added automatically, and although you could ask for it to be removed, since you order at the till how many people are realistically going to ask for a service charge to be removed with a queue of people behind them?
That said the food was absolutely delicious, and itās a lovely venue...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTruly delightful quiet bijoux deli and cafe serving simple tasty inexpensive dishes. This place has recently been sympathetically renovated and revitalised by new young owners who have created a homely, cozy welcoming space to chill and eat and drink. And what an amazing location right by the quiet pleasant canal. Dogs are very welcome inside and outside. Outside downstairs by the canal side is a very lovely garden. Service is at the counter only, which is no hardship. The food is an eclectic mix of homely fresh favourites from a soup to various brunch and sandwich offers. Not to forget all the cakes and coffees! I had a cinnamon cake and a wonderful tasty brunch with soft-boiled eggs and salad, fresh bread , cheese and pickles. Yummy! The only slight problem is the inevitable queues on a sunny day like today, but thankfully turnover through the door is brisk. The new owners are extremely hospitable and fun to interact with, and the activity and bustle in the open kitchen towards the rear shows how busy and attentive and hard working they are. Honestly, this new place is a real gem. Long may it continue. Extremely good value too in these straightened times. Hopefully it will gain a drinks licence soon, which they say is being considered. It deserves it. Good luck to the friendly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTawny Stores is a very welcome addition to the Hawk Green area. Living locally in the area I have watched the renovation over the last year and am delighted to see it now open and doing so well. Set on a beautiful canal side location and gorgeous retro style interior, it is a credit to its owners. I visited last weekend, with a friend, and sampled a scrumptious chicken focaccia, followed by delicious earl grey cake. I also sampled the home made iced tea which was lovely. This weekend we enjoyed a take-out picnic of Focaccia filled with egg and a separate one filled with ham. Both were gorgeous! Followed by a divine home-made carrot cake and rhubarb sponge cake, equally fresh and divine. The owner Beth Hammond is one very talented chef and it will be interesting to see Tawny Stores evolve further. I wish them...
