The Wild Oatcake at Goldenhill — Restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent

I normally love this place. They usually have excellent quality, customer service and are just generally very nice.

I'm not exactly happy this time round, with my experience though, unfortunately.

I write this review, not be unkind, but to hopefully allow you to grow from this.

When we walked in, we were greeted, and ordered our food. In which I asked for no beans, and instead extra tomatoes. I've done it before with them, and it has been fine. My partner orders his food too, and off he goes to pass the order on and it starts to be prepared. We begin to wait and the chap behind the counter starts talking about Kurt Cobain, and how he shot himself in the head, because I have a Nirvana T shirt on. I found that a bit of an odd conversation, to have strangers in a professional role.

A few moments later, he comes back out and informs us that I am unable to change items, that I am either to remove them or pay £1 extra for extra items. So I said no beans and nothing additional then.

We stand and wait and decide we want to buy some Oatcakes too, as they've been so nice before. I stud at the counter, with money in hand- clearly waiting to be served. The man ignores me waiting, and an order comes through the phone, in which he answers, deals with and then takes my oatcake order.

The food is complete at this point and so we put everything into a bag, and off we go. Excited to eat our food- as I say, we've used these before and have enjoyed every bite.

We get home, and my partner's food is missing eggs. Ok, we can live... It's just an egg ... I open mine and I have un buttered toast, beans- which I asked twice for non of, 1 hard egg and 1 runny egg.

£1 extra for swapping items, inappropriate conversation, being ignored, missing items...

Ordered what I thought to be double oatcakes only for them to come cold and nothing like a double at all.. the only thing double about it was the price and you literally just wrapped my food twice in an oatcake!!. I ordered 3 doubles which were not doubles at all and 2 cold cheese oatcakes for later and 2 drinks and the price was a staggering 38 quid? Yes you read that right!.. 38 quid and it's the worst oatcakes "double" ive ever had in my 36 years of been a stokie and eating oatcakes on the regular daily! You ought to be ashamed and just close the place down absolutely abysmal! And I even called the shop to let them know the food was poor and all's he could tell me on the phone was to take it up with just eat! Justeat didn't make my food you did and it was shocking! didn't invite me to get my money back or to actually cook me what I ordered and payed for! Will never return and will make sure anyone I know will never have from there and also will discourage others too not have from...

Golden hill oatcakes used to be my favourite destination after a night shift, perfect belly buster oatcake every time, it has since changed owners and gone downhill in me and my family opinion’s, the belly buster has dramatically reduced in size, price gone up £0.45p for my usual bacon, sausage,cheese n beans with the fat cut off. I went on Sunday and the oatcake was gooey and half went in the bin, I also went the Friday before, the oatcake was cooked that time but was smaller. I will not be returning at all but I wish the staff who worked for mark ( who still work there) all the best for the best times. Oh the oatcake tastes different and I imagine if you put lemon and caster sugar on it, it would taste...
