I first came to The Bower House about a year ago. During that meal, my girlfriend and I were incredibly impressed. We live in London and try different restaurants all the time. I remember, sometime after visiting The Bower House, going to Heston Blumenthal’s The Dinner and thinking that the meal we had at The Bower House was on a similar level. My girlfriend is Chinese and often mocks me in front of our friends for the lack of English cuisine, but she would always caveat her mockery with the exceptional english cuisine we had eaten at The Bower House.

That was after our first meal. The second meal we had yesterday was underwhelming. It was quite boring. The most flavourful part of the meal was the butter that was served with the bread that came before our starters. For starters we had the welsh rarebit which was very enjoyable. Our other starter was the smoked aubergine with pomegranate and corn tortillas. There was little flavour and the aubergine unappealingly cold. For main, I had the pork belly. This was overcooked and tasteless. The vegetables that came with it were similarly tasteless, except for a mild burnt flavour. There was some kind of sauce with it, but I couldn’t tell what it was because it tasted of nothing. My girlfriend had the pheasant. This was beautifully cooked and the highlight of the meal, though also somewhat lacking in flavour.

At the end of the meal, the waiter asked how the meal was. I replied that it was ok, but not great. He said nothing, smiled, and took our plates away. I’m not sure if he misunderstood or wasn’t bothered, I’m assuming it was the first because the service was otherwise very good and deserving of...

While on a weekend away in the Cotswolds we enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Bower House in Shipston-on-Stour and would certainly target to return whenever back in the area. We were impressed by the attention to detail in the room furnishing & features and by the overall customer interactions by the Bower House team. Clearly the staff are very well trained and appear to have experience in high-end hospitality and it showed. ||The highlights of the property for us: |- Fantastic room size (room 5) and comfortable bed.|- Quality towels and linens|- Attention to detail of tasteful room furnishings|- Coffee pods, tea selection and teapot, fresh milk included in the in-room refrigerator|- Large bathroom, roomy walk-in shower booth with excellent rain shower. Great big bathtub, quality toiletries|- Excellent adjoining restaurant. Dined on both nights of our stay, the 2nd of which we enjoyed the delicious tasting menu with expertly paired wines.|- Friendly property staff ||Will definitely consider the Bower House for a stay in the area and...

Some of the best food I've eaten in Cotswold so far! Great menu, exciting flavours and perfectly cooked food. Every dish was delicious and moorish. Knockout dishes were the'N'duja Scotched Egg', perfect, not overpowering with N'duja, but just enough to give the sausage meat more flavour and heat, and with that runny egg Centre, so good! The other dish I loved was the White Chicken, you always hear on Masterchef how they perfectly cooked the chicken breast and have a bit of a moment over it, well this was one of those moments. Price wise, you're looking at the mid to higher cost bracket for the meal (around £40-55 pp with 3 courses and drinks), but it's definitely value for money due to the quality of cooking and ingredients being used. The staff and service were fantatsic, we didn't actually catch our servers name, but she was delightful, funny and professional and made the evening very calming and relaxing. Highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back.

Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great, hot drinks were lovely - tried a Golden Milk and I would recommend this, and priced reasonably too. Stopped in for a spot of lunch, most of the menu is breakfast which is fine so brunch it was. The food was pleasant, the full English had good bacon, black pudding and and toast although the sausage and beans were middling. The halloumi burger was nice enough, but the bun was lacking and even though I opted out of the avocado I would say £17 seems a little steep - even for the Cotswolds About half the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, though I would point out that the doors to the loos are rather heavy. There is no onsite car parking but 5 minutes away there is free parking in two car parks which is handy, by the old mill b&b.

Really looked forward to visiting this place but sadly won't be returnung after first and only visit. We decided to go for breakfast and were so disappointed, we had higher expectations after restaurant claiming to have Michelin stars! We waited for over 30min for the breakfast to arrive, when finally served the food was only slightly warm. Sausages barely cooked, same case with bacon, and snotty eggs. The veggie option could do with veggie sausage and both plates had no harsh browns. I am sorry but I do expect so much more for £12 per plate. In short, long wait, cold food and not the greatest quality or quantity. Also place could to with a bit of tlc.
